"The hymn I can't escape from" Listen closely and you will hear background vocals sing the old hymn "Blessed assurance" as Toby sings the following verse: "You made it such a lonely world Such a very lonely world You bent the answers into questions You let the voice go unheard And you couldn't trust yourself Cause what if everything you felt Meant this was not yours alone Every single word Every single little word that was said And all the simple fears And all the nights that you cried in your bed Hoping I was there but you told yourself You're old and alone But you were never the widow You left on your own" The lyrics are: "Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood." Then the next verse takes up where the hymn left off "I was washed in the blood..." Another parallel from the hymn you will find "whispers and echoes of love fading" is in the hymn as: "Echoes of mercy, whispers of love." ___________________________________________ "I was born of a spirit but I drowned" "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit" (John 3:5). |

In conjunction with part II. A friend gets cancer and dies. It should be: "But know this night will be mine But know this night will be mine Will be mine esta noche será mÃa esta noche será mÃa esta noche será mÃa esta noche será mÃa" "esta noche será mÃa" is a direct translation from the stanza just before this one and says the same exact thing in spanish "This night will be mine" But I love the Spanish! |

The Title: "Disguising Mistakes With Goodbyes" We've tried to communicate but something's not right. We make mistakes in what we're trying to say, a miscommunication, so we cover up the mistake by just leaving/not responding. "just take it back they're only words we hold the tethers we're here together we paint the night only to find it's cracked and peeling each face revealing what we don't say" The relationship's falling apart. The foundation was bad to begin with. "They're only words... what we don't say" There's some obvious communication issues here. I've always thought of this song in the text/email realm. My favorite part: "Let's take these lines and draw ourselves out of here this shipwreck from set-sail..." It's the lines they've been writing to each other. Everything was going so well, but suddenly he realizes it's not going to work out... it was doomed from the start. The same way we disguise or mistakes with goodbyes, we poetically twist the lines we've been writing into a way to escape. "empty diaries we have nothing to say and we'll take the right steps to keep these pages clean you want the answers and I see them on your face you need to know this is where the promise breaks" He makes the diaries empty in his mind, hoping to forget it all. There's nothing new to put into it and he'll make sure nothing goes in. He's regretting the relationship at this point. She's confused, but just by looking at her he knows. This is the end... "I know if you stay this will be ours to take." There's still hope that it would work out, but he knows he has to leave. He wants the relationship to work so bad, but it seems hopeless. Neither of them really know why. Communication. "i can't stay here you can't ask me just so you would know" Like earlier, he has to leave, but he can't just tell her why. something's just not right. She wants to know if it would ever work out. But just as it has been all along, now one will say the answer. |
