| Pinback – Penelope Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| When i hear this song, i see myself driving along the Grand Canyon, windows down, stereo cranked, shades on and head pounding to the incredible bass line. This song is just so chill, it really makes me just want to forget everything and live for the moment. This is a song that is meant to be played solo. That is, nothing in the background, or don't play this song in the background. It is a learning experience to hear this song, and a mental stimulation technique if you ask me. Pinback makes some incredibly chill music, and Penelope is definitely near the top of their list. | |
| Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Isaac Brock is plainly and simply.. a lyrical genius. Mastermind. Maestro. Seriously, every single line is just incredible. And his talent really shows in this song particular. I'll leave the interpreting to you. Maybe sit down one evening, get a hot drink, and listen to this track. Bring up the lyrics, and just sit and think. Even if the songwriter himself doesn't believe in a celestial being above, don't feel as if you can't interpret the song in those terms. Although that may not be what Brock was intending or thinking about when he made the song, there's nothing wrong with taking the song the way you want to take it. After all, who wants to follow the pack anyway? |

| Copeland – Every Silence Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I have every Copelan album, but i never picked up the Grey Man EP. I just found this song yesterday, and it's just amazing. I have to place it up there with my favorite Copeland songs ever, Love Affair, Kite, The Last Time He Saw Dorie, and a few others. Heck, i could name every Copeland song in that list. Aaron's voice really comes out in this song, it's amazing how high he can get and still allow it so sound so nice. You really don't come around to vocalists like him much, and it's great to see him use his talents so nicely. As for the meaning behind this song, i get a picture in my head of a guy and a girl, and the girl asks him a question, but he's not listening and just staring straight into the girls eyes. He gets overwhelmed by her beauty and perfections that he just gets lost in her eyes. I may be very off, but i think Copeland doesn't mind if you just take the song however you want to take it. Copeland paints the most beautiful pictures in my head, mainly because of the genius lyrics in almost every song. Copeland may have split up, but their music will live on, and i know i'll find myself listening to them years down the road. |

| Godspeed You! Black Emperor – The Dead Flag Blues Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I've been into post-rock for awhile, in particular Explosions in the Sky. I always wanted to listen to GYBE, but due to the lengths of the track i never could seem to get around to it. I just recently took the time to just sit down and listen to this piece, and i regret not doing so all the other times where i only made it a few minutes into the track. The piece truly is beautiful, and raises many questions and images about an apocalypse or something of the sorts. The best part in the song has got to be towards the end. It amazes me that this band can create a piece over 16 minutes in length and every second can be as heartfelt and deep as the last. I intend to pick up this CD, for i know it will be money well spent. This band can only be appreciated if you actually have time to really listen. I recommend while either driving, or one night when you have nothing to do and your mind is racing. Close the door, turn off the lights, open the windows and look into the night while you play this track. You will wake up different, for this group has really done something special. | |
| Copeland – The Last Time He Saw Dorie Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I feel pretty confident that this is one of the 2000+ songs in my library that i could listen to on repeat for a pretty long time. Everything just seems to hit dead on.. the piano is simple, yet brilliant, and captivating. I get lost in this song. Aaron has such a clean, perfect pitch voice that i don't see how anyone could go against it. The girls part really adds to the song, and makes it feel more.. connective, perhaps. It just seems to really give the feel about missing someone, not being able to see them again. This is one of Copelands best, even though it is very different from what you might find on In Motion, and Beneath the Medicine Tree. Sad to see Copeland departing this year, but i'm sure it is for the best of every band member, and it's great to see that it wasn't a bitter parting. | |
| Dashboard Confessional – The End of an Anchor Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Like some of you other guys, I also thought this song was about a girl the first few times i found myself listening through. However, after looking up the lyrics and getting to know Dashboard a little better, it becomes obvious that it is indeed a song to God. In the beginning, Chris talks about how is relationship with God used to be good, and strong, but then he slowly faded. Perhaps he got so immersed in his music, earthly relationships, and finances that God himself slowly faded from his mind and thoughts. This song can almost be interpretated as a prayer, because in the beginning what he really is doing is asking for forgiveness of his sins. He's asking for one more chance, which he is sure to receive. In the segment 'In earlier days, they'd persecute people, They'd carry them off, and hobble their legs, For lesser offenses, than how I have harmed you, And still you allow me to walk free of pain.' Really hit me hard. It made me think about how loving and forgiving God really is. The way Chris' laid it down is absolutely stunning. Later on in the song, it seems like he is almost questioning God and why he is so forgiving.. because he "Scorned the face of absolute beauty and measureless grace" he doesn't really understand why, and says he's 'dying to pay for it now'. At the very end, when he says 'Well, i wasn't sure that i could, but i can' i think he is saying that he couldn't do things, but now he is, through God. Sorry for the long read. | |
| Joshua Radin – Everything'll Be Alright (Will's Lullaby) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I just heard this song for the first time on Pandora, and i am absolutely blown away. Not just by the tune, but also by the lyrics. They speak so much truth. I like to make my own interpretations to songs, and this song definitely applies. During the first verse, i think he is talking about how he is in a relationship, and he can't get his girl off his mind. They went off on a good note the last time they talked, but he still has a feeling deep down that there might just be something that's not right. He worries about this constantly, not knowing what to do. A situation that's easy to relate to for alot of people. In the next verse, he talks about wanting to go and make sure everything is alright with her and himself. In the verse about New Orleans, he talks about how something so devastating such as a hurricane can go unnoticed to alot of people. And people just sit around while the city is absolutely destroyed and families are left homeless and lonely. In the end, however he discovers everything's alright. Beautiful song, don't know how i've never heard it. | |
| Damien Rice – Amie Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Damien's ability to truly write his music from the heart regardless of much anything is amazing. He's a true artist. Something that's hard to find in our day and age. Like all of his songs, Amie is hard to really interpret or define. The first verse is my personal favorite. I think that it is expressing how bland and average his life was, with nothing ever interesting happening (explosions), and how it's close to nothing at all because he can find nothing to set his life to. Then, from nothing, a wonderful girl, perhaps enters into his life. In the lines 'And tell it like you still believe, that the end of the century, brings a change for you and me', i think Rice is talking about how their relationship is going to go somewhere, and there lives will be changed by it. Have been changed by it. Even if i look at that segment wrong, i love it. 'You know when you've found it' i think clearly says that they know they were meant for eachother, and experience true love. |

| Explosions in the Sky – Our Last Day As Children Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This is beautiful. The title just fits too well with the song. When i hear this, it always makes me think back to my childhood, and how everyday i only had one wish. To grow up. Back then, there was nothing to worry about. No finances, relationships, or emotional issues to deal with. The only goal in life was to have fun. Then finally, one day comes and something just seems different when you crawl out of bed. The world seems to have a different tint to it, and your eyes begin to become clear to what the world really is. It's not just the small neighborhood you've always lived in. That day, was the last day you and i were children. From that day forth, life would be quite different. Our eyes and minds would begin to see the world as it is; a mess. Corrupt, frightening, and a fierce opponent. At the end of the week, you realize that your life-long dream has finally come true. You've grown up. But, was it really worth the wait? Immediately you begin to miss Childhood the second it walks out the door. The adult life is here. And you have to make a choice. Stand up, look at the world, and charge into it with courage and confidence; or back down in to your corner, never seeing the world as anything but a large bundle of corruption. Beautiful piece. |

| Sufjan Stevens – Romulus Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song i think is the best work on Sufjan's Michigan album. The relaxing guitar, occasional banjo, and soft smooth lyrics leave me breathless. I can't listen to this song and not become relaxed and put somewhat at ease in the mind. I think this song would be perfect if you were sitting around a fire, or perhaps at an outdoor concert at night, where you are the only fans there, and the full moon is shining brightly with its reflection off a lake behind stage shining bright. Dreams do come true. | |
| Mute Math – You Are Mine Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
In the biography section here about MuteMath, Paul Meany states “For us, we just try to keep it simple. We're obviously a band; that's really all we ever wanted to be from the very beginning **without catering to any particular genre or political or religious agenda.** We just want to make music with no barriers.” Notice he says their music does not cater to a religious agenda. In that case, i think the song can either be directed towards God OR a girl. Really i don't know why you people fight over it, it's okay if people interpret the song differently. Now, onto the song. I, as a listener, fit into the crowd saying this song is pointed towards God. I think the song is talking about how everyone has that one thing, that has always stood out to them. Always been something that sparks interest. Whether it be that one special person, God, or something else, everyone has something. And that some people become so caught up with this obsession that their lives seem to become a part of it, and therefore the lines "You are mine" are produced. I think the song is simply a wake up call to people who's lives solely revolve around one person, their work, budget, salary, or whatever. There's not a definite interpretation to the song, but this is what i think. |

| Explosions in the Sky – Greet Death Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is quite something. It is always the song i reach out to when i'm really worked up, stressed, angry, or the likes. The heavy beginning of the song always seems to open up a gate to let my stress out then when the famous guitar riff steps in, it's like a giant wind pushing from behind. Then it gets quiet and calm, and the gates slowly close; free of troubles of all kinds. Truly truly an impressive work of music. | |
| Explosions in the Sky – Day 6 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Best song on this Album. Period. At about 2 minutes, my heart stops. The guitars get so beautiful.. so melodic and intense. My world stops. i sit and don't move an inch till the end of the song. My mind races. Thoughts that seemed to be long-forgotten are pushed to the front, as the fresh ones are abruptly placed second. I think of my life, the world i live in. The generation God's placed me in, and wonder about the future. My future. Where will i be in 20 years? With whom? So many questions to ask; yet no answers. This song is hypnotic. | |
| Explosions in the Sky – Day 8 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
It's a true shame more Explosions in the Sky fans don't take in the "Rescue" Album. It is a really nice work, and it's free on their official website, so no shenanigans here folks. Anyway, i like Day Eight because it is not very lengthy, and really has an awesome feel that comes with it. The drumming in the background, and the sort of finger-snap that joins in really gives the song a bit of an up-pace feel, which doesn't come around often in Eits' work. Also, the piano really gives it a nice feel. (As it does on the track 'Day 4') |
|
| Amos Lee – Colors Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Amos Lee has a wonderful voice, as portrayed in this piece of music. I really like this song, mainly because of the chorus, and how true the lyrics are. The message is really saying that the world can get so much duller without someone around, and how really nothing seems to be exciting, or joyful. Nothings really the same, and your life just isn't really that great. If you like this song, check out the Acoustic version. Truly i like it better than the original piano. | |
| Explosions in the Sky – With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song may be the best song on Those who tell the truth. While 'Six Days At The Bottom Of The Ocean' has that sad tone and melody to it, this song has always seemed to have a sort of angry feel to it. The guitar parts just seem to have this frustration built into them on this track. sloathy, and Sons & Daughters, you both have excellent comments on this song. |
|
| Explosions in the Sky – Day 2 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I agree with jtgober. I Think the echoing vocals really complete this song. It's the ONLY song EITS has ever done that involves some sort of melody and their voices. And they did a dang good job. The Rescue really is a nice work of art, and i think if Explosions would just let more people know that its completely free on their website, it would lead to more people coming to love the beautiful music they make. | |
| Explosions in the Sky – It's Natural to Be Afraid Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This piece of art is genius. The lengthy yet intriguing intro goes on and on, and it's hard to turn away because you know something's got to happen. During this part of the song i always think of someone, who has the perfect life. Who's got it made. With women, work, or whatever, They're just set for life. Then the intro fades and the guitars step in. At this point, one realizes that he's not really accomplishing anything in life, and he only lives for himself. He realizes that he really doesn't have many True friends; people that can and will be there for him. When the drums come in, (6:20) Something tragic, tragic, happens. Such as a loved ones' parting. He realizes that all this time he never knew what he had, and he never spent time with the ones and things that mattered most. Instead, he focused on his own self and pleased no one else. At (7:30), the man begans to attempt to cope with situation, understand it, and attempt to change his life. From that day on out, he would make a vow to live a different life. At (8:20), i picture the man beginning to live his life for others. He starts working for others, through volunteer work and the likes, and helps his elderly neighbors and the poor. At (9:15), tragedy strikes again, and this man's new life is once again ripped to shreds. He loses all he gained, and once again start over. But this time, since he's been through this before, He knows exactly what to do and how to correctly handle it. He will once again begin a new life, and continue the map that has been layed out before him. This is just my way of looking at the song. It may sound crazy, but there's not really a definite interpretation. |

| Damien Rice – Cold Water Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It is amazing how powerful and moving this song is with it's simple lyrics. Damien truly has a gift not only in the art of creating music, but also thinking up some of the most touching lyrics to date. I think that in this song, Damien is saying that he has nothing left; everyone and everything has abandonded him, and there seems to be no hope. But then he realizes he's still holding her hand, and that there's at least someone still out there for him. The lyrics "Lord, can you hear me now" I believe, should be left uninterpreted. There's something about them and the girl's voice that makes it a very powerful section of the music. Thanks Damien, for yet another song from the heart. | |
| Pedro the Lion – I Do Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This is a good song, but don't get me wrong, it's awfully sad. I think the songwriter, when he says "If only he knew he would climb right back in" Is saying if he knew what an awful life he would have, because of his parents raising him poorly, he would rather have not been born. He is also saying that now that he has this child, he must be a man and forget all he ever wanted to accomplish in his life so that he can properly raise this child, and nothing else. This is a great song. | |
| Copeland – Love Is a Fast Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song is amazing. I know the song is talking about the girl who became pregnant, but i like to take a different stand. I like to think of this song as a message that love is not what it used to be. The words I Love You are said alot differently nowadays than say 2 decades ago. The lines "You should not be angry If all she wants is your money Oh, you should not be angry Cause all you want is her body." Are so true these days. It is so bad that people will pretend to "love" other people just for the green in their pocket, or for the physical form God gave them. Love should not be based upon these things. |
|
| Switchfoot – Yesterdays Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is obviously about someones passing, i have no idea how you can see this as a love song. "Your family in suits and ties" Is their family at the funeral, and "You're finally set free" Is saying that the person who passed is now free of all the worldly troubles and evil desires, and now has gone to sit at the throne of Jesus in Heaven. | |
| Snow Patrol – You Could Be Happy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| very, very, very nice. i am copying down your thoughts, literally. Excellent job. | |
| Snow Patrol – You Could Be Happy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song and it's lyrics are so powerful. They can bring out the deepest, and saddest of thoughts, even if you thought they were long-forgotten. This song is talking about his relationship with a girl, and how all he truly dearly wants is for her to forever be happy. Even if this means doing the last thing he would ever want to do: be without her. He is talking about how their relationship used to be so perfect, and true, but now it has fallen apart, and it might never be repaired. The lines "All the things that i wish i had not said are played on loops till its madness in my head" can fit into my (and i'm sure others) lives so well. I am driven crazy every day by the things i wish i had not said, but also the things i wish i had said to that special one. I was one messed up kid before i met this person. Without her, i would be an emotional wreck. no one has been there for me like this person. The lines "You made me happier than i'd been by far" Are so true, it's ridiculously surreal. I am always happy with her, yet always sad and a wreck without. "Do the things that you always wanted to" is the guy telling her to do whatever she wants to make herself happy, not to make others happy. Because that's all he wants for her. Snow Patrol did an amazing job on this song, and i wouldn't change one word of the entire song if i was paid $1000 to do so. Beautiful. simply gorgeous. |

| Copeland – You Love To Sing Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I am going to agree with Barabbas 318, although i think there are 2 main ways this song can be interpreted. The first, has to do with God. Yes, i am aware that they state themselves as a non-religious band. That's why this song has 2 main meanings. I think the first two lines (i've never any time to play it always seems to slip, but it never really goes by) is talking about how we as humans are always saying we have no time to do the things God wishes for us to do, even though we always have time. You can never never have time. The chorus is talking about how God wishes for us to worship him like we mean it, not to be Sally Sunday School who worships just to get it out of the way and/or make themselves look and feel like they are a better person. The billfold section of the song is talking about how money and other objects in the world can distract us so much that we don't realize the way we start to act and don't thank Him for all we have. The second meaning is obviously about a girl. As most of Copeland songs are. Really the only way i interpret this song with a girl is the chorus. It's the only section of the song that i can really interpret. And even then, it seems as if it's the girl who is singing the chorus. I don't know about you, but often this chorus reminds me of people who are there to lift us up, to keep us going in times of need. It is saying to be yourself, not to act like the people around you to "fit in" or whatnot. I think this song is Copeland's best work, and it's a true, true shame to see that they are done. |
|
| Sigur Rós – Glósóli Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Glosoli is without a doubt, the most powerful and meaning piece of music i have ever, and will ever hear. The first time i heard it was at my church, where the video was played along with it. The song itself is surreal, but the video goes so good with the song. Glosoli is a piece of heaven. The way it starts out slow, builds up and finally reveals itself is amazing. This song gives chills, it's so beautiful. I would be lost in this world without Sigur Ros, and Glosoli is one of their best works, without a doubt. | |
| Matisyahu – One Day Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is obviously about war(s) and the affect they have on the world. That is what i love about Matis, not only can he produce awesome rhythms, but his lyrics really have truth in them. Who knows, maybe there will be a day when there will be no such thing as war. | |
| Switchfoot – Your Love Is A Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is obviously about God and His love. A friend of mine told me that at one of their concerts they said that He inspired the song itself. It's pretty powerful stuff, and it can be a pretty sad song when it's listened to sometimes. For me this song makes me want to change my life, but it seems like that's not as easy as it seems. | |
| Explosions in the Sky – Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Six Days is my favorite track by EITS. This song is so beautiful, yet so sad, and so addicting. When i hear this song, i completely zone out and my mind traces back to all the hard times i've had in my life. It brings back things i never even remembered. This song not only occasionally brings me to tears because of it's sad tones and melodies, but it's sheer beauty. This song is a work of art that i think many people need to hear. I think if people just sat down and listened to this song, they would realize their mistakes and the corruption in their lives and they could be inspired to change their very lives. No other song gives me chills and emotions like Six Days At The Bottom Of The Ocean. | |
