Nirvana – All Apologies Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is basically a song about giving up on life and admitting defeat. Which means I think, that it is a song about feeling suicidal. He feels like he owes everyone an apology for the way his life has turned out.

"What else should I be
All apologies
What else could I say
Everyone is gay"

Everyone else is happy but he isn't

"In the sun
In the sun I feel as one"

When he's in sunshine he feels at peace.

"I'm married
Buried"

But even being married he feels like he is trapped & buried. It goes from being happy in the sun to the stark reality.

"I wish I was like you
Easily amused
Find my nest of salt
Everything is my fault
I'll take all the blame"

More self-defeating thoughts saying that everything is his fault. Feels worthless.

"Aqua sea foam shame
Sunburn with freezer burn
Choking on the ashes of her enemy"

Not too sure about this. The 'sunburn with freezer burn' might mean not being able to live life unscathed by it. You get burned either way.

"All in all is all we are"

The repetition of this part feels like a meditative chant. Almost like a buddhist prayer where the same words are repeated over and over. The symbolism is that there is nothing more to us than who we are now....I feel like the repetition is his way of answering his suicidal feelings. Like if someone would ask, "do you feel there is a heaven after you die"? Kurt would reply with this phrase.

Anyways, it is a very revealing song and he's very strong to have written this. It is a song about being depressed and feeling hopeless I think. It is good he wrote this song because it means others won't feel alone. That is my interpretation.

My favorite part is the end where he says "All in all...." it is almost like a religious chant or prayer with the repetition.
