yesss first to comment. favorite song off people and things. andrew said its a song based off falling asleep with the tv on to be distracted from problems at home but then he expanded on that idea. i think he said this during the livestream today. |

i know that this song isn's about his battle with cancer, because it was written before all that happened but it can sure be applied to that whole situation he went through. kind of ironic |

I don't know if anyone else is familiar with Plato's cave allegory, but im pretty sure this song alludes to it a couple times. Plato describes a scenario where a man has lived in a cave shackled so he cannot move for his entire life. above the cave is a fire where people have silhouettes of images pass by the fire so they are projected to the person in the cave. because he has known nothing else, these images shadows are the most "real" things to him, not knowing that there is a whole world beyond the cave. Obviously, the cave could represent anything that deceives us or prevents us from seeing life clearly. I think this song is about a person who escaped their "cave" and found new meaning to life and he is trying to explain to someone who is still "stuck in their cave."
*On a side note, this is the first time I've ever used something i learned in my college philosophy class. I guess it wasn't totally useless haha |

i think the chorus "Youll sit alone forever If you wait for the right time What are you hoping for? Im here and now Im ready Holding on tight Dont give away the end The one thing that stays mine" is the guy crying out to a girl he loves that he is the right person for her. he's saying he is here and ready to be with her but apparently she does not think he is the right person. but deep down the guy knows they are meant to be together

so ive been listening to this song for the last couple years wondering what it means and just recently i felt what Bono is singing about. This girl and I just started to have feelings for each other but in 3 months we'll be going to colleges very far apart from each other and her parents are moving to Maryland. So she just told me last night that we couldnt start a relationship because it will ultimately end in both of us getting hurt. So i cant live, with or without her. |

actually, Bono's lyrics are almost always universal. this is what makes him such a good lyricist. The song is about Christ and the whole religious aspect but at the same time it is about a bad relationship. Almost all U2's songs are like this. |

the version live from Sydney on the "Window in the Skies" single is very moving. Edge's solo is one of his best |
