I think it's about a guy who's hooked on drugs. His girlfriend tells him to stay off the drugs but he feels like he's not interesting unless he's on them: "I am but a clean man, stable and alone man Make it so I won't have to try" (He's alone when he's sober...He doesn't want to have to try so hard when he's sober...) Girlfriend finds out he's still on drugs after she told him not to: "I remember, head down, After you had found out" He takes it hard, because he knows, now that she's found out, she'll leave him: "I took it like a grown man crying on the pavement Hoping you would show your face" and she does leave him: "But I haven't heard a thing you've said In at least a couple hundred days What'd you say?" He gets her back, telling her that he's off for good. However, he's uncomfortable in the relationship 1:because he's having to stay off the drugs 2: because he's always scared she'll leave him (he also knows he can only stay off the drug for so long): "And I was asking if you felt alright I never want to hear the truth I want to hear your voice, it sounded fine My voice is sounding fine" He has withdrawals: "I could feel my heartbeat taking me down And for the moment, I would sleep alright Veiny with a selfish fear To keep me up another restless night Another restless night" He becomes sober: "The blood was dry, it was sober The feeling of audible cracks" But he gives in to the addiction once again: "And I could tell it was over From the curtains that hung from your neck" (he's on some kind of trip, and hallucinates, seeing curtains hanging from her neck) He realizes he loves her while tripping: "And I realized that then you were perfect With my teeth ripping out of my head" He's in the ambulance, still tripping and sees: "And the Lord showed me dreams of my daughter She was crying inside your stomach" That's my opinion! |
