| The same can be said about an athlete's "moment of truth", or an artist moment of inspiration. I should know. I've felt all three. | |
| Eric B. & Rakim – Microphone Fiend Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
From the very first beat it grabs you and holds you through the entire track. The song is about what Rakim was feeling and going through right at the very beginning of his artistic awakening. At the time Hip Hop was viewed as pseudo-music, and his musically-adept family shunned the art form. So, he was told he couldn't, shouldn't and wouldn't be what he has indeed become: the Greatest Hip Hop Artist of All Time. But overall it bears testimony to the undeniable force, desire, urge, etc. that possesses an artist to create art: "By any means necessary, this is what has to be done, make way 'cause here I come." |

| Keyshia Cole – Shoulda Let You Go Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Whenever I hear this song I always think about a girl who doesn't know her guy is a superhero. As much as he wants to tell her what he's been up to, he can't because it would put her safety at risk. From her perspective she's really hurting because of how distant and 'unfeeling' she thinks he is. She has tried to trust him and believe that he is a good man but the deception and stress of saving the world on a daily basis becomes too much for her and their relationship. So, she leaves him, to his deep regret, never knowing the real reason he is. | |
