Bloc Party – This Modern Love Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The narrator has fallen in love with a prostitute. "I'll pay for you anytime" Narrator wants a more conventional relationship, not "this modern" one, but the prostitute is not in the business of real love. "Why so scared of romance?" But of course, the narrator continues to call on the prostitute. "Do you wanna come over and kill some time?" |

I love how everyone always has to specify that the song is about "a guy who loves a girl and blah blah." Because obviously, if the singer is male then the "character" in the song must also be male, and a man can only be in love with some girl. /sarcasm ::eyeroll for good measure:: PS: It's not about a guy who loves a girl. |
The Rolling Stones – Paint It Black Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song was not written about the Vietnam War. It was released in 1966, when awareness about the goings-on (because it was technically an undeclared war) was only just on the rise, as the US government had kept most coverage out of the public during the early 60's. It was later co-opted by war protesters and covered by several artists. "I see a line of cars and they're all painted black With flowers and my love both never to come back" - it's a funeral "No more will my green seagull turn a deeper blue I could not foresee this thing happening to you If I look hard enough into the setting sun My love will laugh with me before the morning comes" - she died unexpectedly, he's miserable without her, and wants the whole world to mourn with him, but everywhere he looks, people are just getting on with their lives like nothing has changed. |
