To me this song is about many things. The Hold Steady seem to have many songs like this where they have incredibly deep meanings interpreted in many different ways. I find it interesting how this song points out young lovers and the young drinking culture as a pure thing, and it looks at hard drugs and that culture as an insincere thing. It's interesting how these different aspects of life often all come together, drugs, alcohol, and love. It demonstrates how the "kiss" of hard drugs can really seem sincere, but also makes one really reflect on the sincerity of young love, especially when caught up in drug and alcohol use.. |
