| Dream Theater – Through Her Eyes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Absolutely the most spellbinding song I have ever heard, no competition. It's a very emotional song. You can hear the emotion in LaBrie's voice as he sings, "She wasn't given any choice \ Desperation stole her voice". Only Dream Theater could make a song this epic. | |
| Pink Floyd – What Do You Want from Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
As you look around this room, tonight. Settle in your seat and dim the lights. Do you want my blood? Do you want my tears? What do you want? What do you want from me? Should I sing until I can't sing any more? Play the strings until my fingers are raw? You're so hard to please. What do you want from me? Do you think that I know something you don't know? What do you want from me? If I would promise you the answers would you go? What do you want from me? Should I stand out in the rain? Do you want me to make a daisy chain for you? I'm not the one you need. What do you want from me? You can have anything you want. You can drift, you can dream, even walk on water. Anything you want. You can own everything you see. Sell your soul for complete control. Is that really what you need? You can lose yourself this night. See inside there is nothing to hide. Turn and face the light. What do you want from me? Ok. Lyrics corrected. It sounds to me like Dave standing up to Waters, but it could also be a stand against the music industry (think Welcome to the Machine and Have a Cigar). Either way, fantastic song. By the way, did anyone else notice that daisy chains are mentioned in both this song and Brain Damage, from DSotM ("Remembering games, and daisy chains and laughs")? In Brain Damage, the line refers back to the time of innocence as a child, but in here, I think it's a thinly-veiled insult at Dave's adversary (be it Waters or the music industry), saying that they're acting like a child, and asking if they want a daisy chain (jewelry such as bracelets or necklaces formed from daisies, commonly made by children). And now, for the haters: If you hate TDB, why do you post on the songs? What could you possibly gain from flaming? All you are doing is making yourself look childish and idiotic. Do you want me to make a daisy chain for you? What do you want from me? |

| Pink Floyd – Lost for Words Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Those last few lines ("So I open my door to my enemies...") remind me of a story I heard about a concert at Earl's Court during the '94 TBD tour. Apparently, Waters was there with some friends, and Dave invited him to join the band on stage. Waters declined, and, although I don't know exactly what he said, I would imagine his words were somewhere along the lines of "Go f*ck yourself." Ironic, because, just a few years later, Waters accepted Mason to do some guest-drumming during his In The Flesh tour. Even though Gilmour has said he did not write TBD about Waters, I think there is definately a few references to him, just like the references to Syd in The Wall, which Waters denied the existence of. | |

Thank you, alikalee, for taking up half of this page with your personal explanation of the Publius Enigma. Very detailed and well-thought-out, but cumbersome. Next time, save it for a PF fansite, or your senior thesis. Thanks. This song is simply amazing. The two views, Mother Nature and a female significant other, both fit well with the song. I would go so far as to say that neither is wrong. As Gilmour has said, the interpretation is up to the listener. My recent experiences make me lean towards the girlfriend angle, but I still support both. |

| Pink Floyd – Learning to Fly Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Truly amazing song. The studio recording is fantastic, and the live recording on PULSE is mind-blowing. I think this song could be interpreted two different ways. The first way is the point that many have brought up, about Dave getting his pilot's license and the sheer bliss from being up in the air. A few have mentioned the second interpretation, which is what I got from first hearing this song. I believe this song is also about Dave taking over Floyd after Waters left, and "learning to fly" by leading the band on his own. Which, I might add, he did extremely well. Also, every time I've heard this song, I thought it said "My sole intention is learning to fly." But, I just looked in the AMLOR booklet, and the lyrics here are correct, sans a few typos. Also, leave Dave alone. Sure, Pink Floyd isn't the same without Waters, in that they've stopped making concept albums (although I'd argue that TBD should be considered one), but their music is still good. Different is not always bad. Waters is also a talented musician; he was great on his In The Flesh solo tour. For all of you arguing that PF sucks without Waters, or that Roger's departure was the best thing that ever happened to PF, do us all a favor and go flame elsewhere. Yes, Roger was egotistical, but I invite you to become a musician of his caliber and see if you develop an ego. |

| Breaking Benjamin – Blow Me Away Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Wow... These lyrics are pretty far off. This is what I've found to be the correct lyrics, after listening to the song ad nauseum: They fall in line, one at a time, Ready to play (I can't see them anyway) No time to lose, we've got to move, Steady your hand (I am losing sight again) Fire your guns, it's time to run, Blow me away (I will stay in the mess I made) After the fall, we'll shake it off, Show me the way Only the strongest will survive Lead me to heaven when we die I am the shadow on the wall I'll be the one to save us all There's nothing left, so save your breath Lying in wait (Caught inside this tidal wave) Your cover's blown, nowhere to go Holding your fate (Knowing I will walk alone) Fire your guns, it's time to run, Blow me away (I will stay in the mess I made) After the fall, we'll shake it off, Show me the way Only the strongest will survive Lead me to heaven when we die I am the shadow on the wall I'll be the one to save us all You wanted it bad... COME FIGHT ME! HERE IT COMES! FIGHT! Only the strongest will survive Lead me to heaven when we die I have a shadow on the wall I'll be the one to save us all Save us all This song is about war. Not just Halo 2, but any war, real or fictional. The first time I heard this song, a friend was playing it for me because we were going to use it on an English project (we had to make a soundtrack for the book Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card - good book, by the way). My take on this is, soldiers are lining up, getting ready to be deployed onto the battlefield. They're talking to each other, giving words of encouragement, trying to get themselves pumped, knowing that they may never see another sunrise. It comes time for deployment, and they move out, trying to keep steady hands for better aim, despite the adrenaline pumping through their veins. They see the enemy, and unleash a gunpowder-and-lead hell upon them. After it's all over, and no enemy remains standing, those that remained alive shake off the dirt, blood, and tears, and go back to base. Only the strongest of the soldiers will make it through the battle, and those that don't will meet again in heaven. And so on, and so forth. I'm not entirely sure about the "shadow on the wall" bit, but I think it means the fear you feel when you're all alone, and you see another person's shadow on the wall. From the soldier's point of view, he is that shadow, and he's about to scare his enemy to death, literally. Also, for those of you who insist on using vulgarities to insult others, can't you find a better way? If your insults rely on swearing, then you need to shut up and learn how to talk respectfully. Try to assume good faith. |

| Pink Floyd – In the Flesh II Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I think The Wall, from this song through Run Like Hell, is incredibly ironic. Pink hates the British Crown because he thinks they are responsible for his father's death in WWII. This idea is evident in the album, and even more so in the movie, with the song, The Day They Took My Daddy Away. In his adult life, he sits inside his wall and watches old war films. He sees the fascist dictators that the British were fighting in WWII, and decides they must be the good guys, since, in his warped mind, any enemy of the Crown is an ally of his. He begins to idolize the dictators in his drug-induced hallucination that starts in Comfortably Numb, and he imagines the "show" that he is going to is some sort of Commie rally. During the show, Pink uses many of the same scapegoats as his dictator idols to take out his anger on, including blacks, Jews, gays, and those with diseases that disfigure one's physical appearance. Through all this, he fails to realize that his idols are the ones who really killed his father, not the British Crown. Sometime during Run Like Hell and Stop, Pink realizes the truth, and then his wall comes crashing down in The Trial. I know there's going to be a lot of you that are going to flame me because I put up an insightful interpretation. Instead of putting up unintelligent memes, listen to The Wall, watch the movie (it's on YouTube), and do some fact-checking. You'll come out on top in the long run. |

| Pink Floyd – One of My Turns Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Ok, I don't know if it's just my copy of the songs, but the first 10 lines of this song make up Young Lust, what this site has for Young Lust is part of Empty Spaces, and the remainder of this song, starting with "Run to the bedroom..." is One of my Turns. Are the lyrics wrong, or is my copy just messed up? Also, great song, showing Pink mentally snapping while courting a groupie, after finding out his wife is screwing around with another guy. Kinda reminds me of 1984, and Winston's affair with Julia, minus the mentally-snapping part. |

| Disturbed – This Moment Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Epic win song, epic fail attempt at the lyrics. You will remember this moment as you dig into me And from your smile now it seems as if you like it You better cherish this moment as you dig into me You'll never get another chance at this I won't stand another minute of your questioning me You heard me bitch NOW the interrogation's over I can't handle the feeling of you pestering me [I've seen this line as "I can't handle all your peeking and your pestering me," but neither one sounds completely right. The current one sounds closest, though.] How would you like to meet my favorite fist No you can't renege I love to see you beg I DREAM this moment as you run away You would only separate me from WHAT I Believe this moment in brutality You're the one who kept on pushing 'till I made you bleed It seems your pride has been stolen since you stood up to me I TAKE IT NOW you know i think I really like it So learn a lesson from someone that will never repeat The many tragic mistakes of his past I hope you see from this moment as you're still on your feet So keep it quiet now I think you're gonna like it WORDS HAVE THEIR CONSEQUENCES WHEN THEY'RE SPOKEN TO ME YOU'D better be careful when YOU'RE writing checks Don't you question how I stand above you now I DREAM this moment as you run away You would only separate me from WHAT I Believe this moment in brutality You're the one who kept on pushing 'till I made you bleed Now you know the answer Save yourself from danger I cannot forget How all of this began I know you know the answer Save yourself from danger Beaten by a stranger Blood still on his hands I DREAM this moment as you run away You would only separate me from WHAT I Believe this moment in brutality You're the one who kept on pushing 'till I made you bleed Basically, how I interpret this song is being tired of taking crap from everybody about who you are. You issue a warning [You will remember this moment as you dig into me, and from your smile now it seems as if you liked it. You'd better cherish this moment as you dig into me, you'll never get another chance at this], and when the antagonizer refuses to stop, you snap [How would you like to meet my favorite fist? No, you can't renege, I love to see you beg... You're the one who kept pushing till I made you bleed]. In the aftermath, you take your pride back, with theirs as collateral damage [It seems your pride has been stolen since you stood up to me], and teach them a lesson once and for all not to give you crap [Words have their consequences when they're spoken to me]. Basically, the chorus is saying, I didn't ask for violence, but you left me with no choice. The bridge follows up on that, saying, I remember how all of this got started, and now I answered your question, "What will happen if I push this guy till he breaks?" Your blood in on my hands, a stranger to you, and hopefully you've learned your lesson. |

| Disturbed – Indestructible Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I see your point, after deciphering the tangle of words you left us, and I somewhat agree with you. I've added punctuation here for those not fluent in average-idiotic-person-who-failed-English-class-multiple-times-speak, as well as removed unnecessary cursing. "Ok, now, this is just how I see this song. I may be wrong, but it seems to me that what the song is getting at is how the United States Marines Corps are trying to make themselves seem invincilble. They have all the latest toys and gadgets and pray to never have another name.* The song is from a soldiers view, and [David] is saying, "listen up we're here, and we're mean. You cant win. I've been waiting for this chance to show you how we have become 'Indestructible Determination that is incorruptible (meaning they will never stop or falter) [From the other side] a terror to behold Annihilation will be unavoidable Every broken enemy will know That their opponent had to be invincible Take a last look around, while you're alive I'm an Indestructible master of war' Now, thats saying [that] there is no way you can win; we're gonna crush you, and to do this we must be invincible. Aand the master of war part is hinting at how high tech the US Army is. Now, ok, that's my two cents. Thanks guys" You're welcome. |

| The Offspring – Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
In my opinion, this song is showing how racism has been turned completely around since the times of the Civil Rights Movement. Back in the late 1800s-early 1900s, African-Americans were considered inferior because of their dark skin color. Now, African-Americans are "the shiz," while whites are chastised for being different. A white person trying to fit in with African-American culture, unless they can do it well, is booed for being a wannabe. Pretty Fly is exactly about that. It's showing how idiotic and hilarious someone can be if they try to be somebody they're not, so just be your own person. To answer erikkatrissy's question, the line "He asked for a 13 but they drew a 31" is talking about getting a tattoo, and the artist messing up the request. A tattoo of a "13" could be considered "cool," due to the fact that 13 is superstitiously an unlucky number. The number "31" has no such background, and would seem "lame." Just more chastisement of the poor white guy who's a victim of society. |

| The Who – Behind Blue Eyes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
/No one knows what it's like To be the bad man To be the sad man Behind blue eyes/ Trying to keep a façade of normality to hide his inner demons /No one knows what it's like To be hated To be fated To telling only lies/ People hate who he really is, so he has to sugar-coat his image to be accepted. He has to lie to everyone, even himself, about his identity. /But my dreams They aren't as empty As my conscience seems to be/ He has vivid dreams and dark fantasies, which at the same time excite and disturb him. He lacks a conscience, but must act like a "normal" person. /I have hours, only lonely My love is vengeance That's never free/ He has a lot of time to himself to plot out his vengeance on the world, for forcing him to become something that he despises. He knows there will be a cost, and is wary of that. /No one knows what it's like To feel these feelings Like I do And I blame you/ He feels all these evil things, and he blames a person as the cause, probably an ex-girlfriend. /No one bites back as hard On their anger None of my pain and woe Can show through/ He has to keep his anger and emotions inside, for fear of showing who he really is. /But my dreams They aren't as empty As my conscience seems to be/ Again, vivid dreams and dark fantasies, coupled with a lack of a conscience. /I have hours, only lonely My love is vengeance That's never free/ Once again, plotting vengeance on those who made him this way. /When my fist clenches, crack it open Before I use it and lose my cool When I smile, tell me some bad news Before I laugh and act like a fool/ He doesn't want any emotions to be shown, so that he can keep his inner hatred caged. He believes that if he succumbs to emotions, his malice will come out and everyone will be able to see him for who he is. /And if I swallow anything evil Put your finger down my throat And if I shiver, please give me a blanket Keep me warm; let me wear your coat/ Two possible meanings: If he gets sick, make him throw up, so in his poor health his "wall" doesn't break, or, if something could make him lose control, make him throw it up before it takes effect. If he's cold, warm him up, so he won't be weak and allow emotions to slip through. /No one knows what it's like To be the bad man To be the sad man Behind blue eyes/ Summing up the entire song: You don't know what it's like to be evil behind a harmless façade. Be thankful for that. That's my interpretation. If you think it's right, cheers. If not, don't just diss other people's ideas. Come up with your own. |

| Blue October – Let It Go Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Here's my take on the song. This song fits in right after Hate Me, where he leaves his mother, the only person to date that has really cared about him. In this song, he realizes that he made mistakes, in leaving his mother and in his first failed relationship that dropped him down so far that he hit rock bottom. He is basically asking for forgiveness and redemption, for a second chance for him to do it right. He gets this chance in the next few songs, What If We Could, She's My Ride Home, and 18th Floor Balcony. The next song, I would argue, is You Make Me Smile. | |
| Blue October – What If We Could Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Yet another amazing song about Justin's wish to escape from the terrors of the world, and just be happy with the one he loves. I would say this song fits in right before She's My Ride Home: he first expresses his wish to leave the world behind in this song, and they follow through with it in Ride Home. He says, "I'm glad to say I met you, but I'm sad to say that the circumstances weren't on our side." Their meeting was great, but he acknowledges the fact that the world does not want them together. He follows it up with asking if she will leave the world behind and just go be happy with him. | |
| Blue October – 18th Floor Balcony Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I view this song as the sequel to She's My Ride Home: the two have just escaped from the world, and now they've found a place where they can be alone and just enjoy each other's company. Time slips away from them as they hold each other and just talk, getting to know each other intimately. The fact that the song takes place on a balcony is definately Justin's way of tipping his hat to Romeo and Juliet, two lovers who left everything behind, including life, to be with each other, against all odds. It's pure love poured into a song, and this is very high on my list of all-time favorite songs. | |
| Blue October – She's My Ride Home Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I believe this song is about Justin and his love saying "Screw it, we're gonna be together, and anyone who gets in our way gets killed! Who cares what happens, we're happy! To hell with the world!" It's an awesome song, and it hits me personally in the whole escape sense. | |
| Blue October – Hate Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I interpret this differently than most: I believe this song is about Justin's mother, not a failed relationship. /Mother: "Hi Justin! This is your mother it is 2:33 on Monday afternoon. I was just calling to see how you were doing. You sounded really uptight last night, it made me a little nervous, and a little, well it made me nervous, but it sounded like you were nervous too. I just want to make sure you are really okay and wanted to see if you were checking in on your medication. You know I love ya. Take care honey, I know you're under a lot of pressure. See ya. Bye Bye!"/ He is uptight talking to his mother, due to their strained relationship caused by his bipolar disorder. His disorder is also the cause of his pressure; he tries to be normal but struggles due to his bipolar disorder. /I have to block out thoughts of you So I don't lose my head They crawl in like a cockroach Leaving babies in my bed/ In order to prevent going mentally insane, he has to block out thoughts of his mother. The "babies" are little nuggets of pain from each memory. /Dropping little reels of tape To remind me that I'm alone Playing movies in my head That make a porno feel like home/ The memories remind him that he left his mother and moved out on his own, and the "movies" are memories of being molested by his uncle (of which I read in a comment on Angel). /There's a burning in my pride A nervous bleeding in my brain/ The stress of trying to avoid his mother is getting to him /An ounce of peace is all I want for you Will you never call again? And will you never say that you love me Just to put it in my face? And will you never try to reach me it is I that wanted this/ He wants his mother to leave him alone, to allow him to forget her and the things his uncle did. He doesn't want to hear that she loves him, because, although he knows it's true, he can't bring himself to say it in return. He knows that she really cares about him, but he's hit rock-bottom, and so he doesn't feel like anybody cares. /Hate me today Hate me tomorrow Hate me for all the things I didn't do for you Hate me and wait, yeah wait for it to swallow Hate me so you can finally see whats good for you/ He wants his mother to hate him for leaving her after all the good things she did for him. He wants her to blame him, because he feels guilty for leaving, and he wants to have a reason for it. /I'm sober now for 3 whole months It's one accomplishment that you helped me with The one thing that always tore us apart Is the one thing that I won't touch again In a sick way I want to thank you For holding my head up late at night While I was busy waging wars on myself You were trying to stop the fight/ He got over his addiction to whatever (the first thing I thought of was alcohol, but I know it could be other things), and he thanks his mother for her help. His addiction always created tension between them, and now he refuses to touch it again, so he might be able to climb out of his hole. He wants to thank his mother for the help with getting over his addiction, but can't actually say the words, so he wants to tell her "in a sick way". She was trying to get him over his addiction, as he was "waging wars" on himself by putting harmful substances in his body. /You never doubted my warped opinions On things like suicidal hate/ His mother never ceased to support him on anything, even such dreadful things as hating himself enough to contemplate suicide. /You made me compliment myself When it was way too hard to take/ His mother, in an attempt to improve his self-image, forced him to compliment himself, even when he thought he couldn't. /So I'll drive so fucking far away That I'll never cross your mind And do whatever it takes in your heart To leave me behind/ He wants his mother to forget him, just like he wants to forget her, and he will do anything to succeed. Chorus: Same meaning /And with a sad heart I say bye to you and wave/ Deep down inside, he doesn't want to leave his mother, and this shows for the first time. /Kicking shadows on the street For every mistake that I have made/ The classic kicking-innocent-inanimate-objects, regretting all his choices but knowing it's too late to go back and try to fix everything. /And like a baby boy I never was a man Until I saw your blue eyes cry And I held your face in my hand/ He never felt grown up until he saw his mother cry for his pain, when he started to care about her like she cared about him. He held her head in his hand, trying to comfort her after telling her that he was going away for good. /And then I fell down yelling make it go away Just make a smile Come back and shine just like it used to be/ He can't take it anymore, he wants everything to be like it was before his uncle was introduced in the picture, back when everything was good. He wants all of his problems to go away. /And then she whispered: "How could you do this to me?"/ His mother, through her tears, asks him how he could manage to put her through this much pain. Final Chorus: He's begging his mother to hate him so he can feel better about leaving her, because knowing that she loves him despite everything hurts him. He doesn't understand that a mother never stops loving her child, no matter what happens. I also corrected the lyrics in there. |
