This song has always (since the 70's) been about any 70's hippy girl with long hair, tan, wearing jeans and barefoot. |

Damm I miss the 90's! She was my girl! Wonder if her heart is still broken too??
BHTM music was so nice coming off the loud fuzzy guitars of the 80's, not that they were bad but this was like growing up musically. Great song! |

I love all the deep and mysterious interpretations of this song (and many Zepplin songs for that matter...)however, having grown up in the Zepplin era and having rushed to the record store to buy their albums as they were laid down, I see a much lighter interpretation of the lyrics. True, Robert Plants lyrics were often described as mystical, philosophical and spiritual, I think when the guys were rocking they were rocking not being philosophical. No Quarter to me represents the hard acid rock band they were at the time. The 70's was a time filled with mystery, (i.e., space exploration and electronic inventions), and was philosophical and spiritual. To me this song represents a kick ass rock bank that was struggling with the time, the influence of drugs and being stoned all the time and the success they were having influencing an entire generation of kids. It's a kick ass song created in a kick ass era by a kick ass band. They were well into their success by the time this song was written and they were pushing ahead similar to the warriors the song seems to represent. |

I remember watching them play this live at my high school in 1975 (La Canada). None of us had any idea how big this band would become. |
