Lily Allen – Fag Hag Lyrics 12 years ago
Honestly, I can't tell if this song is supposed to be very subtle satire of the concept or if it's played perfectly straight because if it's the latter, I can think of another of Allen's songs I would like to refer to her in response. I'm quite sure you can figure that one out.

If this song isn't satire, then it's basically the bane of my existence as a gay man. Even moreso to me than the raving homophones. At least they are aware of what they're doing. This song just proves to me that Allen is blatantly oblivious to her own shortcomings in the matter.

I'm not your fashion accessory. I'm not a girl, I'm just gay. I'm not femme and even if I was, even if I loved fashion and interior design and all that stuff, I still would absolutely loathe people with this attitude. I don't need or want to be "one of the girls" and I have no desire to be what amounts to be a modern day eunuch.

Fuck this and fuck the "pet gay" trend. I as a gay person do not exist as a backdrop to you as a straight person. Just because we both like dick and you're okay with that doesn't mean I am basically a woman. Fuck you very much for conflating sexual orientation with gender identity as well.

Flogging Molly – Rebels Of The Sacred Heart Lyrics 16 years ago
love the reference to some old literature in the line "The albatross hangin' round your neck
Is the cross you bare for your sins he bleeds"

the line is actually a reference to a story written in the 19'th century called "the tale of the ancient mariner." one of the characters was ticked off due to the doledrums the ship was caught in, and in his frustration, he shot and killed an albatross that recently showed up near the ship, which was considered good luck, as they commonly followed winds. As punishment, they hung the bird's body round his neck. (humiliating, and albatrosses are HEUG! probably was murder on his back.)

I always saw this song as the journey from an idealistic, certain young man, to the disillusioned man with no more hope of his past goals.

Ben Gibbard is a master lyricist and vocalist. This song in particular makes me actually swoon.

Passion Pit – Better Things Lyrics 16 years ago
knowing this band, I don't quite think it's fully religious. they relate many things about love to be a religious like experience, in the sense of the fulfillment they get from love being the same as a devoted practitioner would have from his faith.

The Postal Service – Sleeping In Lyrics 16 years ago
To me, this song wasn't really about deep political societal commentary. It was all about the romance between a an with his personality, and sleep.
To those who don't quite know, for some people, sleep is their final refuge. stress and frustration can never follow them into their sleep, and when they need to rest their mind, they sleep. To these people, sleep can become so meaningful and supportive for them, they can almost perceive it as a romance of sorts.

Passion Pit – Sleepyhead Lyrics 16 years ago
I always saw the like "I drag you back a sleepyhead" as "I drive you back, a sleepyhead."

perhaps talking to someone who was attempting to seduce him.

the second verse possibly dealing with the after effects of said rejection. she was probably hot, not used to having a man resist. the rejection left her confused, angry, and ravenous in a way. She got neurotic about herself, and it all just made her "burst." so to speak.
