| Wilco – Wishful Thinking Lyrics

I think this song could be about Jeff Tweedy's creative process, and perhaps doubting his abilities. The chorus refers to his lyric writing, reading books to fill up his mind, but accepting his mind cant hold it all, the 'wishful thinking' beight the wish that he could be as good as his literary heroes such as Henry Miller. The first verse would then be about the recording and releasing process, he 'can't unring the bell' as in he can't un-release work that he's no longer proud of, but 'it's just as well' because how would he measure his progress as a writer if he did?. The second verse is about his lyric writing and subject matter. Anyways, just a theory, it's a pretty ambiguous song, a damned beautiful song, but an ambiguous one. |

Ok, this is going to seem like kind of a juvenile interpretation, but anyway. This song appears to be a guy saying to a girl 'Maybe you wouldnt be such a bitch to me if you knew how big my dick is', like I said, it seems juvenile, but is it beyond the realms of possibility?, after all we're talking about a man who wrote a song called 'your dick is hanging out and you have come in your hair' |

I'm pretty sure it's 'and I'm still wondering if my soul is worth it to anybody', and 'You know I know the lords own way through'. The song is obviously about the catholic church's attitude towards homosexuality. |

i think the second line in the chorus is 'at the end'. and in the second chorus, i think where you have 'an ounce of liquor' should be 'a house of an acre' |

The song seems like it might have been influenced by The Third Policeman, written by Flann O'brien. In which Joe is the name given to the protagonists soul. Also the reference to 'pull the handle' seems apt. Give the book a read, see if you agree, if not, its still a great book. |
