| fun. – Some Nights Lyrics
|
|
In my opinion, this song is about someone who is away from their friends and family and is feeling very isolated. Consequently, he begins to question his decision to sacrifice everything to follow his dream. However, by the end of the song the singer has sort of come to a place of acceptance that though things are bad now, they will get better if he just perseveres and makes it through some "terrible nights". Whatever person he was worried about forgetting him, he seems to now realize that some space will do them good and that he needs to spend some time on his own. I don't think there is any right or wrong "story" behind this song, like I doubt it was written specifically about war or college or anything like that. I think it just speaks in general about things changing and learning to accept those changes and grow from them. |

Love this song. I don't have children, but I can just feel the incredible amount of love a parent has for their child expressed in this song. And Joel watching Harlow fall asleep isn't creepy, it's his daughter. A lot of parents watch their children fall asleep to make sure they are okay.

From the first time I heard this song, I immediately equated it with the feeling of complete depression. It's how you feel when everyone has walked out on you, given up on you, and left you all alone. And now you're sitting there, trying to make sense of it all and pick up the pieces of your life. He seems to be desperately begging someone to just be there for him, to notice when he's gone. If you really listen to what he's saying, it's heartbreaking. I'm not sure if he's neccessarily contemplating suicide, but he definitely is in a very low place. Just my interpretation though. |

I think this song is just about how irrationally crazy we can all get after a break-up. Obviously parking your car outside her house (essentially stalking her) isn't the most sensible way to get someone back, but this song really sums up how the manic feeling you get when you still love someone so passionately after a break-up. |

This 1-minute song is a perfect example of how so much can be said by saying very little at all. The majority of the passion coming from this song is simply the music playing. Of course the singing is amazing too. Honestly I feel a lot more listening to this album opener than I do from pretty much any other full length song. It just expresses in such a beautifully simple way the feeling you get when you truly, unconditionally love someone. That despite the time that passes by, or how much the other person pushes you away, you will always love them just the same. For me personally, when I listen to this song I think of my best friend since childhood that I stopped talking to about a year ago. She was my like a sister to me and I will always love her and be there for her should she ever need me. |

| Making April – All Of Yours Lyrics
|
|
It sounds to me like this song is about a troubled relationship in which the singer finally takes things too far and his partner leaves. He seems to be apologizing for whatever he did, and essentially saying that he had no idea what he did would cause her to leave and hurt their relationship as much as it did. He just wants to take whatever he did back and to get things back to the way they were before he screwed up. It's just a really sweet song that goes to show you never know what you have until it's gone. |

| John Mayer – Edge Of Desire Lyrics

|
|
I think this song is about the mix of excitement and fear that comes with a new relationship. That time when you just meet someone you really like, but you just don't know if you should let you guard down and go all in again. The title itself kind of explains it, he's on the "edge of desire" but he's trying not to completely fall for the girl because he may just be wasting his time or setting himself up to get hurt. But in my opinion, this song is a positive one and he eventually gives in and opens himself up. John seems to write a lot of songs with this theme, especially on Battle Studies. He seems to have a pretty deep-seated fear of intimacy and commitment, which may be why he is often considered to be a "player" in the tabloids. |

| Augustana – Stars and Boulevards Lyrics
| 14 years ago
|
|
I think this song is basically about the singer trying to accept the fact that the great relationship he once had is not there anymore. His partner has become cynical, negative, and impossible to please ("Any inch of you that hasn't said it all or read it all"/ "All the stars and boulevards aren't close enough for you"). He realizes how bad things have gotten and that it needs to end, but that doesn't make it any easier. So he's agonizing over it all and still reaching out to her ("One last phone call from you it wouldn't hurt much. I just like to hear your voice and pretend to touch."). What makes the song so sad is that it's not resolved at the end, kind of like one of those movies that just fades to black before any real ending. I'm not sure if that was purposeful or not, but it could very well signify that some relationships don't have a distinct beginning and end. Sometimes you just can't make a clean break, no matter how bad things have gotten. |

| All Time Low – Jasey Rae Lyrics
|
As someone who was in a similar situation (in Jasey's place), I completely get what Alex is trying to say. Basically he promised Jasey the world to get her in bed, not really thinking or caring about her feelings. She got attached to him and he never had any intention of getting serious with her despite him trying to convince her otherwise. So fast forward whatever amount of time, Alex is now looking back on it and feels a tremendous amount of guilt about how he treated her. So he wrote this song. The message he's trying to get across is that he really screwed up and she has every right to hate him. Alex admits that he was incredibly cold-hearted and manipulated her to get what he wanted. He's not asking Jasey to forgive him, he's just asking her to understand.
This song is essentially what I always wanted the guy who did this to me to say, but he never did. Whenever I remember what happened or get upset thinking about how much it broke my heart, I listen to this song. It literally makes me cry almost every time. You can literally feel the raw pain and emotion in the acoustic version. |

This is probably one of the sweetest, most sincere songs I have heard in a long time. I think it's about more than him just being a nice guy and trying to make her feel better. To me it sounds like he's in love with her, and it kills him that she feels the way she does and that people have treated her so badly. By singing this song, I think he is essentially trying to get her to open up and realize that she doesn't have to feel guarded and insecure with him. |

This song is completely about Taylor Lautner, they broke up in December because she didn't appreciate him and thought he was "smothering" her. I was at her concert last fall and Taylor Lautner was in the audience, he was just staring in awe at her she sang, you could tell he was crazy about her. I think this song was written when she realized this fact too late. |

| Maroon 5 – No Curtain Call Lyrics

|
I think this song is about Adam's frustration with the girl he's with, or maybe even a friend. The person he is singing about obviously has a lot of problems and she is "pointing the finger at everyone but herself", but he is still trying to stay with her and save her aka "running through the flame instead of running away". The song is basically his plea to her, to figure herself out and get the help he needs, or just get him help her aka "Take this enemy together, fight these demons off forever forever forever forever" He is saying, we could be something great, and I'm not trying to end us, but you need to let me help you. It could very easily be about some sort of addiction or disorder in my opinion.

I think the song is basically Adam saying that although he knows they have ups and downs in their relationship and he gets a little confused, he promises her he will never leave her. | Good Charlotte – Like It's Her Birthday Lyrics

I LOVE Good Charlotte, I was obsessed with almost every song off of Good Morning Revival. But idk, when I heard this song I have to admit I was kind of disappointed. I'm confused as to why they chose this to be their single, is it an omen to what the rest of their album is going to be like? I certainly hope not, because the song is just kind of superficial and really has no deep meaning or feeling behind it like their songs usually do. It's basically just a song about a guy's girlfriend acting like a crazy slut and he's a little confused...yet okay with it. Somehow I have the feeling that this might have been slightly inspired by Benji & Joel's taste in women such as Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie (although Nicole seems like she is a great person now). Anyways, I hope the rest of the album is MUCH better than this, becaue there is really not much to write about the meaning for this song lol. |

| Vanessa Carlton – White Houses Lyrics

This song to me is about meeting new people in an unfamiliar place and trying to fit in and just feel wanted. And in the process, doing whatever it takes, sometimes things you later regret like losing your virginity to a boy who wasn't worth it. It's basically just reflecting on the past and stupid mistakes you made, and how you have grown since then and learned from all the good and bad memories. I cried when I heard this song, because I can relate to it so much as can most teenage girls. You just want to experience everything there is to experience as a teenager and you don't think about the consequences or what will happen tomorrow. It's not as fun dating boys and going to parties and living the crazy teenage life when you have to deal with the reprecussions and heartbreak that come with new experiences like losing your virginity. I hope young girls can take this song as somewhat of a warning, don't grow up too fast. Enjoy your innocence, your youth, your time as a kid while you still can. Once you've lived through really hard times, things may get better, but you'll never be the same person you were. |

| Natalie Imbruglia – Torn Lyrics

I think this song is about that feeling you get when a relationship just goes sour. That person you thought you knew has become someone you can't stand, and you realize that everything you had is no longer there. It's that moment where you realize that you don't know where to go from here, because your whole life has been built around the idea of this man. The lying naked on the floor is an illusion to that feeling of being stripped of everything you have, everything you once were. It's just too late to fix things, she's basically just saying leave me here and let me be "torn", I need to get through this and pick up the pieces myself. |

So I may be way off here, but from the first time I heard the song it made me think of losing your virginity. I'm sure she didn't mean that because she's in her twenties and probably not even close to a virgin, but you could definitely take it that way if you listen to it with that thought it mind. Even though she's terrified and not sure if she wants to go through with "it" she decides to do it to keep the guy around. She loses her self-worth and is talked into doing "it". She fells like if it keeps him around, it's worth it to risk everything. It's just that feeling of sheer anxiety and fear and mixed emotions that comes at a time like that. Let me know what you guys think, maybe I'm just stretching the song too far haha. |

This song is the ultimate "leaving an abusive(physically or emotionally) relationship song". I can relate, and I completely get what she's saying. It's basically saying, you really messed me up, everything you did to me was so bad it should be (or is) a crime. It's that feeling you get when you look back at a really sour relationship, you're nostalgic but you can't help but regret wasting all that time and being stupid enough to keep it going all that time. |

| Alicia Keys – Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart Lyrics

When I first heard this song, I just knew exactly what she was trying to say. It's that feeling of wanting to be with someone so much and loving them with all your heart, but you just know you can't be with them. Deep down, you know that you two aren't right, and all you do is hurt eachother, but it's completely heartbreaking trying to accept that. I think the video just says it all, she is this strong superhero who can save anyone and do anything. But then when she sees the guy, she just goes weak, and when she touches him, it only hurts him more. So she flies off, because she knows it is what's best for him, and for her. You just have to find a way to make it without that person, because that's the only choice you have. |

I'm really glad Rihanna chose to write about her experience with a really bad relationship. I can relate, as can a good majority of the world. The song is just about her coming to terms with the fact that it's just plain stupid to stay with this guy and keep giving him more chances. He is obviously not a good guy and not the right guy for her. She is basically saying, I've done some dumb things, I've let you take advantage of me all this time, but I'm not stupid enough to take you back again, I'm done. |

Even though this song just sounds bad-ass and catchy, I think it does have a message. She's basically telling the world (post-Chris Brown most likely) don't feel bad for me, I'm a strong person. She brags about how successful she is, which I think is her just reminding everyone shes not some poor victim, she's a huge popstar, and that's what they should know her for. |

I mean no one can say for sure, but it is pretty obvious he wrote this about Rihanna and their very public relationship problems. I think people assume because Chris Brown did that to her he's this horrible person, but this song shows that he really deeply cared about her and wanted to try to make things right, he's just a flawed person who messed up big time. The song is basically saying I know our relationship is hanging by a thread and I didn't treat you the way I should...but if you give me another chance we can start over with a clean slate. It's a beautiful song, no one can deny that, regardless of what you think about Chris Brown personally. |

It's someone speaking to a love interest, basically saying he isn't ready to be in a relationship yet and he needs time to think. He is literally saying, "Stay away from me" until I am ready to be with you. He also gives the person he is talking to a choice, you can be faithful and wait for me to figure things out ("resist temptation"), or you can go ahead and see other people and move on. He is essentially telling the person he is not in the right state of mind right now to be with them, at this time he just can't do it, for whatever reason. |

The song is basically a message from Good Charlotte about how messed up our society has become. Instead of appreciating really good, loyal people we flock to the ones that are either emotionally or physically unattainable. They are basically making a comment on how sad it is that it has to come to this, but there really seems to be no other way nowdays. At the end he is just saying, "can't you see what thinking like this did to me, I'm starting to think and act like that as well". You can tell they are incredibly dissaproving of this, but admit that they too are falling into this routine of breaking hearts. |

To me, this song is about a guy who finally realizes that he needs to move on from the girl he was with. She treated him badly, and "all he'd do is wait and wait". But this song is basically him coming to terms with the fact that they are over and she will never truly be his again. It is a song about the end of a relationship and accepting that it's over. The wind blowing is basically signifying that now they are nothing more than a gust of wind, or a passing memory in each other's lives and that is all they will ever be now. He is saying that she can try all she wants to get him back ("you can scream"), but it won't work because now she is nothing more than something in his past ("there's just echoes"). |

To me, this song is about a someone reflecting on an on and off relationship. In the first verse, he is just reminiscing about them being together and basically saying "I know you still miss me, I'm thinking about you too." The chorus is saying how their relationship has been so back and forth and such a long rocky road. He is questioning whether or not they should get back together. The second verse is basically saying, why did you have to turn your back on me when we didn't work out? They always seem to get back together and he is wondering if it will happen again like it always does. Then the third verse is basically him admitting he really does miss her. He then points out how everyone hides their feelings, or "They all stay in to hide the seasons". In the last few lines of the last verse, he is essentially saying we're really messed up, but I like it like that, I like how we are together. In summary, the he is basically saying he misses this girl and their relationship, however disfunctional it may be, and he wants to know if she misses him too. |

In my opinion, this song is about a girl who gave her all to a guy and loved him with all her heart when he never really felt the same. He never really took what they had seriously, he just used her and "took the very best of her" when it was convenient, and then left her to pick up the pieces. But she always went back to him, because he "had a way of coming easily" to her. But as she is writing this song, she realizes that he never really cared about her and just how cold he really was all along, even though she wanted to believe with all her heart he wasn't. This is a reflection of the relationship, a sort of coming to terms for her. |
