To Boosemo: No, it wouldn't be. It is called counterculture, and it's excessively common. To JDclown: I commend you for having the balls to write this. It's nice to know someone understands the song. To all others, a song is a song. Some people want a beat, some people want lyrics. Neither is better. Let people enjoy this song, because you are allowed to enjoy your songs. |

| And this band totally ripped off Paramore, they put the word 'misery' in their song, I mean, how shitty is that? Assholes. That word is COPYRIGHTED. | |

I believe I have something to say. This is an amazing song, by the way, and the singer does a magnificent job of putting emotion into it. My heart beats faster when I hear this song, it's breathtaking. "We were the Kings and Queens of promise We were the victims of ourselves" The human race was a promising one indeed. Within a short amount of time (compared to the life of the earth) we stood upright, used our hands to grasp and hold things, and could communicate quickly and easily in languages, something that, as far as we know, no other species on earth has ever mastered. We had so much promise as a whole. And what did we do with our hands? Built weapons. We no longer communicate the nearest source of food, we communicate plans to kill others of our species and destroy things. In my pessimistic eyes, we were given everything we have by circumstance and sheer willpower, and we completely threw it away. It's like a stranger giving you a million dollars and telling you to start a business with it, and you go spend it drinking and gambling. At this rate the ozone will cease to exist and we will fry in the sun. At this rate we will completely obliterate other species entirely. We have hunted so many to extinction it isn't funny. "Into your lives Hopeless and Taken We stole our new lives Through blood and pain In defense of our dreams" Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I couldn't have said it better myself. "The age of man is over A darkness comes and all These lessons that we learned here Have only just begun" I think the first two lines are in the future, where, by one reason or another, we are wiped out. The last two lines are back in the present, where some of us fight this end to the world. |

| Papa Roach – Getting Away With Murder Lyrics | 16 years ago |

To ME? It seems to be talking about manipulation, possibly a SadoMaso relationship. It's almost that he's manipulating someone into thinking that they're in control, making them think that they're his 'master' when they aren't, and he's leading them to their death, or at the very least an extremely unpleasant fate. The first verse 'I need to calculate what creates my own madness, and I'm addicted to your punishment' would make it seem that he is only the submissive, the 'used' in this relationship. But other parts of the song contradicts that. 'It isn’t possible to never tell the truth, But the reality is I'm getting away with murder' He's lying up and down, luring the person into a trap with his lies. This was an interesting verse to me. 'I take my drink and I don’t even want to I think my thoughts when I don’t even need to I never look back cos I don’t even want to And I don’t need to because I'm getting away with murder' He's doing all these things, he doesn't want to do them, but he's doing it to continue the illusion that he isn't the one in control. I have been in a relationship somewhat like this, manipulating the person into thinking they're in control, when they aren't. The person I was back in those days would be proud to know someone else knew how she felt. Fascinating song. |

OH GOD IF A SONG DOESN'T HAVE A HUGE MEANING BEHIND IT THEN IT'S TERRIBLE!1!!!!11!12! It's a good song to dance to. Just because it isn't about the war in Iraq and global warming and saving the whales and falling in love all at the same time doesn't mean it's "OMG sooooo pointless". Some of the nicest things in the world have a very minor 'point'. If you really hate this song that much, then don't freaking listen to it and go on about your lives. Nobody's strapping you to a chair and forcing you to listen. And by the way. If your favorite artist makes ONE song you don't approve of, then that automatically means they sold out and they're going too mainstream? Wow guys. Just wow. |

ShallowBayBandit, that's a good interpretation. Though perhaps it's the heathen in me (I'm a steadfast spiritual atheist) but I think it may apply not just to Christian victims, but to victims OF Christians, in this modern day. In Texas, and probably in many other parts of high-end countries, it's literally illegal to be in office if you do not believe in a higher power. Look it up, it's there. And there's a saying that says 'it doesn't matter what you believe in, so long as it's something'. You could believe in Allah, in Buddha, or in God, so long as you have a religion, it seems to send a message of order and normalcy. But it seems to me that people fear the abnormal, and to have a minority religion or none at all is abnormal. Perhaps he is in a minority religion? The angel part in the title is what this person thinks of their belief (whatever that may be, so long as they are persecuted for it) and how it's a marvelous and wonderful thing. However, it's 'evil' partially out of irony (that's what everyone else calls it) and partially because of all the pain it's causing this person. He keeps telling the angel, 'open your wings, fly over me', to show them that it's true, show the world that his beliefs are right, so they will stop persecuting him. As we all know, though, no religion truly shows itself. Perhaps it's a divine joke to keep us guessing... The part about imaginary friends really gets to me. People, when speaking to those in a smaller (or sometimes even just not-Christian) religion, put them down, tell them that their beliefs are imaginary, that the happiness they have in their heart is imaginary. How hard could that be? To feel so much love in your heart, only to be told it isn't real, and here's a flyer for my church. Wow I sound bitter. |
