according to john at a concert in dc last night, this song is also related to/inspired by jesus malverde. (no name given at the show, but john talked about how the guy was considered the patron saint of drug dealers and said that his last name meant "bad green", so there you go.) |

lots of howlers in the transcribed lyrics - hopefully my corrections have gone through. i love this one particularly because it feels more like a short story than some of his other songs, and he really is a terrific storyteller. (if you can see him live, DO IT. worth every goddamn penny.) also, that couplet in the chorus gets me every time:
you don't get over a broken heart / you just learn to carry it gracefully |
