It is hard for me to believe that there aren't more comments on this song. Yimmy is a yeenius! Could he be singing about sociopaths? Perhaps "the finer things" are a person's qualities and character (and are not material) and therefore "unheistable". I suppose someone could pay (and/or get paid) to find out about these qualities. Maybe that is the getting inside (and it is "inside", not "behind" if you listen to the song) her christmas curtain bit.
Maybe Yimmy is saying that inner beauty (being honest, open, brave, forgiving, kind, loving and accepting responsibility for your actions) is the reason the christmas girl lives inside your womb. She's always there, I think that I am certain. You'd pay to get "inside her christmas curtain". Yimmy is saying, "Come on you FROWNS!" You too can be good (it is inside of you, I am certain). No need to fuck the christmas girl in order to feel good about yourself.
My absolute favorite christmas song. |

This song reminds me of my mom. Music can mean anything to anyone, right? Well she lived in San Fran from '57 til '65 and she worked for George Moscone. She ran his office in the marina when he first ran for a seat on the "Board of Supervisors". He won. She worked hard for civil rights by day and was immersed in the music scene by night. In '64 it became a federal law to allow african americans to vote and she went from hood to hood talking to them about their rights and registering them to vote. Many could only sign an X for their names. Anyway, she registered Willie Mays to vote. I have an 8x10 picture of her with Willie at Candlestick Park. SF, gays, Willie Mays... This song reminds me of my mom. |

My dad flew F89 fighter jets in Kyushu in the US Air Force for years in the late 50s. He turned me on to music and I turned him on to this song. He loves it. He is 6' 4" and weighs 250. He'd make a large Japanese man. |

elsey you nailed it. To me, Tweeds is singing about art, no matter what kind. A song or a painting has a way of impressing itself into our brains. It carves out an image in our mind and calls out specific emotions. He is singing about the process of cross-fertilization and interpenetration. Once it is "out there" we all borrow and we steal. It's the way it works. There is no getting it back. "You can struggle with it all you like. You'll only get uptight." One of my favorite Wilco songs, for sure. |
