I don't think there's really any pondering to this song. It's about the stray dog, referred to Laika, that was used in a space experiment. I believe the last part: "I know how alone you feel so far away, While they pretend to remember you, Laika, I'll make you proud, Is laika coming home? laika, Please come home" Is from the viewpoint of a child who became close to the dog ("Before the launch, one of the scientists took Laika home to play with his children.
