I think the heart on a hook line is sorta like fishing. He keeps casting a line, but its useless. And the hook going through his heart hurts him, but he keeps trying. Then he keeps calling her in the next line, but he knows she wont pick up. He is tired of this and doesn't wanna have to deal with her anymore. Just my interpretation. I think you got everything else right :) |

| i too think its about his dad, and even if theyre a family he feels like they dont really know each other, theyre strangers who only are a part of each others lives because they are related. he wants to make him proud, but he doesnt feel like he measures up. he wants his dad to know that he really loves them and wishes that he didnt leave. he doesnt want to feel the pain though that his dad is causing, and he is kind of giving up on his dad. He screwed up a relationship with this girl he really loves because he didn't love himself and know himself, and until he figured out his life she knew they couldn't work. He says hes gonna change for her, he'd do whatever it takes. The hopelessness in his voice though almost makes me think he doubts himself. He really truly loves her though and doesn't want to hurt her, though he understands why she left. He realizes he's a mess, but he needs her, and he knows he'll fall apart if she's not in his life. She wants them to communicate more for it to work. She also knows that he needs a little tough love though to turn his life around. I LOVVVVVVVVVVVE THIS SONG. My dad and I sort of have this relationship though, so it makes me sad. He just isn't willing to do whatever it takes... He can't change, but he also can't love himself or me, sigh.... |
