The Joy Formidable – The Last Drop Lyrics 14 years ago
i can't believe someone could understand these lyrics well enough to write them down. i thought she sings 'destroyed it' in the chorus. i still can't hear where she sings what. but i'm at work now (hardly working) so when i get home i'll blast it and try to understand. I kinda like the lyrics i make up in my head when i can't understand. imagining that the lyrics were 'destroyed it', i would sing that in my head whenever i felt i was part of a gang that just won a dance competition or played a good show or did some other badass thing and we're walking down the street in slo mo like the new beastie boys video just breaking shit and 'destroyed it' is like the slang metaphor for how awesome we are compared to the world but also we're literally destroying shit because we can and it's just great yeah i love joy formidable i hope my band plays with them some day.

The Blood Brothers – Cecilia and the Silhouette Saloon Lyrics 15 years ago
this album seems to have a theme to that i hear in denver max. that theme is mirrored here. i think the theme is about secrets and the complexity of all people. six nightmares seems to take place at a posh and glamorous ball or party, but there is underlying terror and hysteria of secrets. that's why it's called a masquerade, people are wearing masks. both characters in denver mask seem to be wearing masks, or you can assume that if the victim escapes, she'll be perceived as a beautiful and innocent girl as she grows up, but with this horrible secret past.
In this song, death has a mask, our perception of death is multifaceted and unclear.
'But that locket spinning around her neck,
whose hearth heats a dead valentine,
you know the phantom trail leads way to a muted grave.'
you see here the common message of a locket, something prescious and lovely, but it is a bandage. a mask. secrets hinted through stories. aren't our stories masks anyway?

Foo Fighters – My Hero Lyrics 15 years ago
I always thought this song was about a dad who was never around, a dad who you only see going out the door. That's just what I got from the song without reading any interviews or whatever. Peace

Sublime – 54-46 That's My Number/Ball and Chain Lyrics 15 years ago
There is a little part in the lyrics that is missing from this lyrics sheet: i'm not really sure what he says, it's between the first chorus and the bridge-thing. right before 'chillin into the club all night.

also: he only says 'all the lies' twice.

yeah sublime is like the instrumental version of a DJ who makes his own track occasionally, ha. 40 oz. is a great album.

Weezer – Pink Triangle Lyrics 15 years ago
haha "here's an idea. i think maybe this song is a slight acceptance of bisexuality on rivers part. maybe not completely, but at least a hint of experimentation in which he fell for a guy. hence this song - only to be sung by a girl to keep it from being too public. he is singing at the end, saying "he" - and it also links into the "i've smoked a few in my time" line in pink triangle.

as he admits "everyone's a little queer"...
anyways, that's what i think... " ~xpankfrisst in comments for 'I just threw out the love of my dreams' songmeanings page

Lucinda Williams – Joy Lyrics 15 years ago
A lot of these songs seem to reflect Lucinda's wandering spirit as she seeks the familiar moving around city to city, in this case from a former lover, who maybe lives in the vicinity. This song sounds like a post break up song--not to oversimplify--and she's still upset about it. She's never weak though, always strong and emotive. In the last song, Jackson, she's going to move to Jackson or other cities she names, she says, Don’t think I’ll miss you much, but it's hard to believe that from the tone. The thing I like about 'Joy' is the vocal rhythm and inflection in the I'll find my Joy lines. It's a similar tone to Jackson in the implied uncertainty about getting over whatever is haunting her at her present home but being determined to move on. But like Zappa said, writing about music is like dancing about archictecture.

Against Me! – Those Anarcho Punks Are Mysterious... Lyrics 15 years ago
thanks sinksink. i have thought of a lot of different ways to interpret this song. it being a sing along could maybe clear it up, unless it's a big joke. maybe them opening for green day was a big joke etc. .. ha. but really though, people: the point is to discuss the lyrics, not just how much you like this band and AFI et al

yeah, you could also see it as another artistic spin on the working man united theme, because this same ho and ha is in sam cooke's workin on the chain gang. although cooke's song also has some slavery undertones

Thao Nguyen – What About Lyrics 16 years ago
You were not what I needed
Was not drunk, just defeated
So I stayed
And of course, I don't want you
I just want to hear what you would say

And on my way home
I screamed, "I get it!"
And the sky screamed right back
"So why'd you let it
do you this way?"

i think these lyrics are perfectly non specific
those lines have meant different things to me depending on
what is happening in my life or my head
