This song is so obviously about drug addiction and conquering all chains of the devil by the redeeming power of Christ. The imagery used is very drug-related (hammers and needles, snow on your face and the razorblades, we'll sleep dreamlessly), anyone who has ever shot-up will immediately recognize this. The point is that there is nothing that Christ cannot save us from, and in Him, there is always a brighter tomorrow to aspire to. |

I believe the use of the metaphor of fornication, specifically masturbation and co-dependency, are referring to the spiritual adultery that takes place when we replace the one true God for the idol of money. It is all using others for our own personal gain, and in the end, we are merely playing with ourselves in the the quest for material prosperity rather than seeking the kingdom of heaven and its righteousness. The lyrics assume an understanding of adultery and fornication as disgraceful and links them directly to the love of money. |

things in life are often not what they promise to be, and the whole caveat to temptation is how it promises one thing, but always delivers something else; what promises heaven lies to you, truth is more elusive than what is presented to us as such, and because of that we must continually search and peel back the layers of deception that bind us to what we think we want, otherwise once we get what we thought we wanted, we find that we are trapped and have lost all that really matters |
