I'm pretty sure The Killers wrote religious songs before this one. Did you not see the quote earlier? He's Mormon, and he acknowledges that a great deal of his songs have religious references and/or meaning. Besides that, YOU yourself are projecting your own beliefs onto this work with your own interpretation. It's impossible not to interpret a song without the interference of your own beliefs. That said, I do believe that this song is more focused on society as a whole and how our violence and destruction all began with eden and also Cain and Abel. Not just the past seven years. And as someone else said it reminded me of Fahrenheit 451. Many in society today want to pretend everything's going to be okay. Religion most likely does play apart in this, though. He probably believes people are also beginning to ignore religion and politics. |
