| Florence + the Machine – Breaking Down Lyrics | 14 years ago |

This song makes me think of psychosis. Like schizophrenia or something. I think the speaker is aware of her delusions, but that doesn't make them any less real for her. Or she's seeing something supernatural. But that's just a pet theory, not the real one I'm going with. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Doors Unlocked and Open Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
My interpretation: Isolations, dotted lines Seas of concrete, wild eyes Streaking colors, blurred to one Always moving, blinding sun Blinding sun Cold discomfort, safety glass Seasons turning, dying grass California, gilded crowns Mile markers, counting down This seems to be describing roads. "streaking colors, blurred to one" when you're driving fast, you don't have time to take in your surroundings. Miles markers leading you somewhere. Somewhere down, down Down in the ocean of sound, sound We'll live in slow-motion And be free With doors unlocked and open Doors unlocked and open Roads lead to cites, and cities are never quiet. There's always something happening and life moves so quickly. It's also pretty lonely. You don't want anything to do with the dozens or hundreds of people you walk by or encounter during your day. It's lonely and stifling. Everyone locks their doors because every stranger is a potential threat. You have to be careful with so many unknown elements around you. When you live out in the middle of nowhere, life is so much different. The only noises at night are crickets and cars driving by. You can leave your door unlocked because there aren't many people around to break in. You don't have that same fear. Everything is open but not as lonely. You can be closer to the people around you even if there's more distance. Life is so much slower. I think Ben is describing a time when the city, I would guess LA, isn't so stifling and lonely. Where you can trust your neighbors and leave your door unlocked without the fear of someone taking advantage. A time when people slow down and enjoy the things around them. The way he sings it sounds really calm and peaceful to me, which emphasizes the point. |

| Silversun Pickups – Growing Old Is Getting Old Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Instead of: Memorized Your smile lines From left to right It should be: Memorized you smile lines when lips divide And: Came to life And it's: We slide into delight instead of 'the light' And childlike Reaction time should be: Kept alive your childlike reaction time |

| The Fray – Happiness Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
My favorite part is the first verse: Happiness was just outside my window I thought it'd crash blowing 80-miles an hour But happiness is a little more like knocking On your door, and you just let it in To me, it's like, you think finding happiness will be this big event, but it just sneaks up on you. You don't know it's coming. It sounds very gentle and soothing, really different from the firecracker part. |

| Missy Higgins – Katie Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I can see how this song can be taken as being about an anorexic, as they are really concerned with control, not just in their weight. But I personally think it's a girl, maybe young, about 16, or someone that's not matured. The girl had a bad upbringing, or things are bad now, "I'll find a way", "It'll be okay". She turns to alcohol/drugs, and, as many addicts think, believes she is in control of her usage. Her friends/family try to help, but she refuses it. | |
| Fall Out Boy – She's My Winona Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I see this song as describing making it in the music biz. "The only thing suicidal here is the door" The only way to truly fail is to give up. Someone will buy your album if you make it. Hell or Glory I don't want anything in between Then came a baby boy with long eyelashes Daddy said you gotta show the world the thunder The thunder, the thunder, the thunder They want to phenomenally fail or tremendously succeed. No inbetween. You have to do something amazing to attract attention (Thunder) We didn't come to compete this is a demonstration even the young ones become irrelevant they always bring up how you changed never the same person when I go to sleep as when I wake up, as when I wake up Fall Out Boy is beyond the people trying to make it today. They're showing them how it's done. You have to keep reinventing yourself to remain popular, or the masses get tired of you. The old Fall Out Boy fans like to complain that they've changed, and sold out, FOB saying 'no, we're growing and getting better." When you're a beginning band, you might have these ideals, but if you don't grow up and grow out of those ideals, you become irrelevant because everyone will forget you. |
