The video is a slideshow of black and white photos of some of NY's landmark buildings and its citizens, but Jay-Z talks about prostitutes and drugs. I have to wonder if this song was meant to be sarcastic, a criticism on some of it darker aspects, with a chorus that mocks the American Dream mentality people often associate with the city, and the meaning was lost somewhere because people are automatically reverent to the city after the attacks there. Of course, Jay-Z is also rapping about how ~awesome~ he is so it could be that he considers some of those negative things glamorous. Not really sure. |
