I think this song is about hip-hop, "I think its great how you used to be great, I can't hate on how you choose to relate" - Mainstream rap seems concentrated on money, and sex. "barely trust 'em they're all puppets love is nothin' scared of success" - Rappers today are puppets to whatever will make them the most money. Nothing is original or fresh it feels in mainstream rap today. "seems like he's got a lot of complaints about how nowadays things ain't the same used to place some faith in the basement a toast for this guy and those kids that he came with" -A rapper that came before thats complaining about how rap isn't the same and how he used to have faith in popular rap. "cause they all on the same shit" - Once again, unoriginal rappers "don't ever do a dance with the devil now that smile is a sign that you're sellin' out" -Slug's being sarcastic, Dance With The Devil is a song by Immortal Technique (check it). Making a song thats different and has emotion (aka "love is nothin")is the exact opposite of selling out. That and the Beastie Boy reference "listen all of y'all it's a sabotage" makes me feel the song is mainstream rap and the rap of the past. |
