This song is about having a crush on a religious girl but you're a "bad" guy so it will never work, even if the "time" is right. Your eyes shine bright like a Jesus nitelite - she is happy, attractive, life of the party type, and religious. A nitelite lights up a dark room(probably referring to the influence of the girl on the speaker, or maybe how she lights up the party unlike the other girls there) I'd like to touch your positive vibes -He is but a man. Indifferent eyes won't give me the time -she's not interested in the "bad" guy May I help put aside your moral fiber - literal You're dressed in white - she is beautiful and innocent (who said innocence is the greatest aphrodisiac?) My face is white -she makes him nervous The time is right but I feel all wrong It wastes away until it's gone - he has a chance to try and spit some game but lets it pass because they have ideological differences and it wouldn't work out You're walking by I'm standing by Behind the light I'm standing by By and by -he missed his opportunity, and even if he gets another he will make the same choice by and by is in a lot of religious songs as it expresses a sense of eternity and certainty, something that is definite, but indefinitely long for instance the song "I'll Fly Away": "I'll fly away, Oh Glory I'll fly away; (in the morning) When I die, Hallelujah, BY AND BY, I'll fly away (I'll fly away). Thats my take on it, but it may just be me projecting my personal experience on his song. |
