nope. Cuba wouldn't make sense. If she was coming from Cuba there would be no fear of deportation because of the USA policy of not deporting cuban immigrants coming to america both legally and ILLEGALLY. and the living conditions that he mentioned such as the corruption do not describe cuba, but rather haiti. |

everyone who thought that the final verse about immigration was about Mexico or Cuba is wrong. He is most likely talking about Haiti. First, he mentions famine and hints at corruption There is a risk of famine in Cuba due to hurricanes and such but it is not a constant as it is in Haiti. Also, despite popular belief the Cuban government is not known for being as corrupt as the lyrics describe, but Haiti's government is. Second, and most importantly he mentions DEPORTATION, the United States Government has a policy of NOT deporting immigrants legal or other wise from Cuba. This due to stuff that happened during the Cold War, and with the emergence of communism. Many wealthy Cubans and those who did not benefit from communism fled the country, and being how the US is the poster child for capitalism and very anti communist we open our boarders to these people fleeing "economic oppression" With that being said, it is impossible for him to actually be talking about Cuba. He can only be talking about Mexico or Haiti. As someone already mentioned illegal immigrants coming from Mexico do not take boats by sea. Leaving the only logical place of origin to be Haiti. |
