I submitted a lyric change. Lake George is in New York. Lake Charles is in Louisiana.

Billy Idol – White Wedding Lyrics 12 years ago
This certainly makes the move sense to me just reviewing the lyrics and the tone of the song. Occam's Razor... he is very clearly saying exactly this. He's been away from heroin, and it's calling him back.

I don't think you can use the video imagery to deduce any meaning from the song.

It sounds like a tribute to some famous person's drug overdose. I don't know who though.

Mike Doughty – The Only Answer Lyrics 14 years ago
Unlike a lot of Doughty lyrics which really are really just sound explorations, I feel like this album did a much better job of narrative.

With just a few words in this song, he gives us a few characters, settings and emotions to put you in a story. I really like this song because I'm positive I've got some experiences like the ones he's singing about, and it makes me reminisce those. The girl you thought was the one, and the insignificant but beautiful moments you remember.

Grateful Dead – Brokedown Palace Lyrics 15 years ago
In the "Classic Albums" series episode called "Anthem To Beauty", they chronicled the recording of the Dead from Anthem of the Sun to American Beauty.

Robert Hunter is interviewed and he talks about how he wrote the lyrics to Ripple, Brokedown Palace, and To Lay Me Down all in one afternoon in a park in England. I don't know if they are supposed to all be interconnected, but they all came from the same mood, one would think.

Yonder Mountain String Band – My Mother's Only Son Lyrics 15 years ago
My wife and I have been disagreeing on whether or not you should trust the narrator of this song.

She believes the storyteller's tale and thinks it's unfair that the sheriff shot him.

But I think the storyteller is just trying to talk his way out of being shot, and he's probably lying that he didn't know that the woman was married. He mentions that he's not known as being trustworthy.

What do you think? Is this elaborated on in the rest of the Sheriff's Saga tale?

Yonder Mountain String Band – 40 Miles From Denver Lyrics 15 years ago
Oh, I thought this song was saying life is better here (Denver), but reading the lyrics he's clearly saying life is better in the Appalachians. Boooooooooo.

José González – Time to Send Someone Away Lyrics 15 years ago
I've read a lot of lyrics for this song, and they all have some small differences... and I like them all. :) Jose has some poetic fans it seems.

I will continue to believe that it's "Go on, count your chickens" instead of chins... but maybe that's just me. I swear I can hear the "ck" in there.

On the second verse, it's definitely not "not me I'm not in" again, it sounds more like "I've got my back up." "Sad how you've been all lead astray"... then this page is currently missing the next line which sounds like "Come lets count... it's obscene."

Anyway, it's a beautiful song and this is a great interpretation of the lyrics.

Radiohead – Weird Fishes/Arpeggi Lyrics 16 years ago
The lyrics in this song tell a story, but the music is crucial to the story.

I think that the guitar arpeggios are the thematic element that represent the fascinating and beautiful fish that the lyricist is singing to. It builds in intensity through the first several verses to where it's nearly doubled on itself in the "phantoms" verse, and then it's just an echoey memory during "eaten by the worms"... then gone completely at the end of the song.

Plus I love how Thom's singing is as boring as possible at the beginning of the song. He's 3 lines and 11 words into the song before he gets off of a single repeating note, and then 2 words later he's back on the same note again, all without any inflection and practically mumbling.

It really conveys a feeling that the singer is practically emotionless at the beginning, when this beautiful fish flutters by, inspiring a tremendous crescendo of emotion until he's actually screaming "oohhh-aaahs" in the backing track behind the phantoms verse.

And then it's gone. Beautiful.
