Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is such a masterpiece! How in the verse the major chords make it sound a little happy, but still a bit fake, like the music is trying to chase away all the emotions, which fit the lyrics perfectly. And then in the chorus, just pure emotion and pain. The last week, during my stay on a folk high school, I had to say goodbye to so many people I loved and I felt like I had nothing to go back to. I sat down with a fellow Peal Jammer and played this song. I cried so hard that I nearly stopped, but I finished and it was such a relief! What a shitty comment I just made.. This song is too good for me to explain it on a PC keyboard :D

This i definitely about loss. Be it loss of your love, loss of your loved child by aborting it. That might lead to suicide. Yeah, the story behind it might be something else. What's important is what it means to you. At least that's what i think..

A Perfect Circle – Judith Lyrics 16 years ago
You guys discuss if this is about Maynard's mother, or if it's about religion. Well I think it's about both.
I think this is a major critisism of how the different religions restrict people's way of living, and how people still keep believing in their Gods, even though the Gods don't keep 'em from suffering. More than any other religion, I think it's about, catolism, which he also criticizes (<- difficult to spell!) in Opiate, though Opiate was more about the guys who made money on people's faith and kept them controlled - "Religion is opium of the people" -Karl Marx.

And her mother was one of those who still believed in God, even though she wasn't kept from suffering.
"All religions claim that God is almighty, and that God is a good person. But then why can't he keep people from suffering? It's not because God doesn't have the power, cuz he IS almighty. And it's not because God don't want to, cuz then he'd be evil. Well does god excist then?" Not an excact quote, but I think you got the message.

Alice in Chains – Nutshell Lyrics 16 years ago
Such a sad song. I think it's about the downside's of being famous. No privacy, you can't just be yourself, and it's about the fact that everyone want's to be rich and famous, but when you get famous, it's not the brilliant as you thought it'd be. So in a way I think Layne also want's to tell people that fame isn't just absolutely great, it actually sucks sometimes, you should appreciate what you have.

"Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me as her body once did."

What does that mean?

This make's perfect sense. It's just that it doesn't fit the title, but that doesn't matter.

Tool – Parabola Lyrics 16 years ago
I've seen somebody stating that the meaning of the song could be the birth and death, and possibly going to heaven. This fits with the title parabola being this mathematical curve. When the curve is goin down, you're born and when it goes up again, you die. Heaven might be the top of the parabola, if you believe in that.
Also some guys mentioned that the song tells us that we can overcome pain, if we try. You're doing well, you're happy (top of the parabola). Something terrible happens to you, or someone close to you, depression etc. (the curve going down). You're filled with pain (bottom of the parabola). You do something about it, you try really hard to make the pain go away (curve going up). You get rid of the pain and leave it behind (top of the parabola).

Difficult to explain, but hope you understood it.
