I'm not sure where PBC stands on religious beliefs.  But to me this song has to do with their disbelief in religion, especially organized religion, and how he doesn't like how people just take it all in without asking any questions.  "See, i chewed the bitter pill, did you just swallow down?"  means to me that he thought about religion and God and such by "chewing on the pill"  instead of "swallowing it down" as so many people do and just blindly believe.  "the storytelling, the times beg for change"  refers to how the bible to him is all hearsay and just fictisious stories and that he is disgusted with how people blindly believe in it and that needs to be changed.  "  There are days I catch the sunrise and it hits me like it does But I don't see a tailor's trademark, I see light and dust" refers to how he doesn't believe in God creating earth and the universe it Just is what it is.   "We talk of religion. She asks if I'm seeing She asks if I can see the wind"  this part refers to a religious gf perhaps and she tries to argue for religion by saying you can't see the wind but it's there.  Implying that you can't see God but she knows He's there.  "All we live for is now or never (All we live for) All we live for is now or never (Now or never)"  this part talks about living for this moment and this life doing whatever he pleases trying to not be held back by a religion of any sort and perhaps he thinks there is no afterlife. "This year I did away with riding fences When it comes to doubt and be damned, I'll take my chances"  talks about how he's had a revelation and has finally decided to take his chances by living a non-religious lifestyle. I was actually sort of sad to realize what this song is about because I am an active Catholic and I really like PBC.  Their music is still great and they put on a hell of a live show! I could be completely wrong but that's how I see the song. |
