To me, this song is about leaving somewhere that has become extremely close to your heart. I spent the last summer working at a camp and I always felt that this perfectly identified with leaving at the end of the season to go home. "All you can do is try to know who your friends are As you head off to the war" That's a perfect description of what it's like, the place you have been is almost sacred, the 'real world' feels like an overwhelming and terrible thing. "You'll come back when it's over No need to say goodbye" It's about something wonderful that can't last and is ending.
