The Cult – Edie (Ciao, Baby) Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is, on the surface, about Edie Sedgwick of Andy Warhol fame, and her quick rise to fame, the consumption of her persona by users and posers, and her ultimate demise after losing herself...

Ian Astbury has said he identified very much with Edie's life and how she got caught up in it all-- used and abused-- and wrote the song about himself.

Beautiful song.

The Cult – Rain Lyrics 16 years ago
The Cult is absolutely underrated and overlooked!
Greatest band EVER.
Saw them live in '87 and a few times in '09 and they are still amazing live. Go see them when they tour again. You will not be disappointed.

And yeah, Ian Astbury has said this song is simply about sex...

The Cult – She Sells Sanctuary Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about social isolation, as touched on above by HowardMoon and flaminmofo.

Not sure why everyone seems to think this is about relations with a prostitute, although the lyricist-- Ian Astbury-- has said that this song is about sex.

It seems to me that the world is dragging along and dragging him down, but for the love in his life and the "sparkle" in her eyes. That love keeps him going, despite feeling like the world is a difficult, judgmental place.
