| So, here's my big thing. These songs are NOT instrumentals. They have lyrics. I would like to know what these lyrics mean. I cannot tell you how hard I have been looking for lyrics for any one of the Dead Can Dance songs which aren't in English. There are lots of lyrics pages, and all of them say "Instrumental." What gives? | |

To quote from the back of the CD leaflet from the album "The End is Begun." "Joey would like to thank: You, my family, my friends, my band mates, their families, and God." Last I checked, atheists don't thank God. Mind, that album was released more recently than "Paint By Numbers," but I have never found a progression from disbelief to belief in any of their lyrics. I don't see why every discussion HAS to go in the direction of religion when it comes to Three lyrics, considering there are almost countless ways to be interpreting them. |

Speaking from the position of one who is aware of, yet unfamiliar with, the chronicles involved with this album, I think better_than_you_are has something of a point. Perhaps not of the 'correct' interpretation of the lyrics, but of an appropriate one. Something I love about more ambiguous lyrics is that they can easily mold themselves to the experience or sentiment of each individual listener, while still directing the overall feel of the song with such things as word choice and tonal expression. On the other hand, it's also possible to hear the song differently each time, due to the ambiguity. On a side note, something that struck me about this song at first was the phrase "Good eye, sniper. I'll shoot, you run." Taken out of context, it does have a hauntingly child-like quality to the wording. It's reminiscent of school yard games that exhibit the 'good guy/bad guy' battle. Yay for personal responses. |
