I think this song is about the sinking of ship, MS Estonia from Silja Line. One of the worst sea disasters in history. Very few of the total passengers survived. The "Waiting for a whale to come and rescue me" lyrics are most likely about the few that survived the sinking but were not rescued and died of hypothermia. Ivan from the Rosebuds always has a beautiful voice, but he really shines in this song. |
