The Stills – Of Montreal Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's just about this general feeling of sadness, of nostalgia, of feeling like the world is so big but you can't grasp it, so you take hold of the little things. I think the writer is disappointed in the way that our governments handle the huge issues, so he reverts to being "turned on" by very small, insignificant things.

Either that, or I'm just drunk.

Spoon – Out Go The Lights Lyrics 15 years ago
Maybe it's about Obama? To me I can see it being a song about our President and how he was very popular during his campaign and his first few months in office but now that more people see him as just another politician, one that is not so different than our previous president (better of course, but not Hyperion to a satyr), his popularity has diminished. No clue about the black wig bit though, so I'm probably wrong. Just throwing it out there though.

Pixies – Monkey Gone to Heaven Lyrics 15 years ago
I disagree--I think of the 5, 6, 7 bit as a power differential: the whole song has an environmental undertone to it; humans are ever at the mercy of nature. I believe Black is trying to point out that we are below both the Devil and God in terms of how powerful we are, and that though we may think we can reap the earth for our own benefit, we are mistaken and will pay dearly for it.

Feel like it is "glow" and not "goal." That's how it sounds, anyway.

TV Torso – Days of Being Wild Lyrics 16 years ago
Amazing song. I think it's about falling out of touch with someone and telling them they should learn lessons from their past good experiences. Even if things turn bad between people you can still learn from them.

Actually, I know this band is pretty into environmentalism. "Falling freon" : Freon is a contributor to ozone depletion, which causes severe problems for humans and other organisms. So, "falling freon" probably refers to efforts to keep freon down from dangerous levels in the atmosphere. The Montreal Protocol of 1987 was the first major effort of doing this (the band is from there). This would tie into "the sun cries from the heat" - the earth is warming at an unsafe rate. Not sure if the whole song connects to climate change, but it's clear now that about half of it does.

Perhaps just comparing about how he's as passionate about the environment as his love? Who knows for sure.

Sound Team – Afterglow Years Lyrics 16 years ago
I think the second line is wrong.
Also, I like to think it's "founding fathers" rather than "frowning fathers" -- it seems more clever that way in my head hah..

Metric – Help, I'm Alive Lyrics 16 years ago
AGREED - Fantasies is fine but it's so loaded with these sorts of songs; heavier, more conventional "safe" songs. I want more stuff like 'Calculation Theme.' There are only about 2 non-thrashing songs on Fantasies. Metric's best albums (the first two, if you include Grow Up as #1) are also the ones with more soft-ish songs. I like the songs on Fantasies, but not the album. In my head, that makes perfect sense.
