i've read a lot into this song to see exactly what it's about. most of the comments i have read talk about how this song stands for someone's childhood and when he sleeps it takes him back to his childhood. i completely disagree. i know it's long but i broke down each part of the song. in my opinion the song fireflies is about a guy who can not get over a girl. i thought maybe they broke up and he was w. another girl to get over the girl he loved but my idea makes complete sense. You Would Not Believe Your Eyes If Ten Million Fireflies Light Up The World As I Fell Asleep Cause They Fill The Open Air And Leave Teardrops Everywhere You'd Think me Rude But I Wouuld Just Stand And stare means: when he sleeps he dreams of her and you wouldn't believe that a million fireflies lit up the world b.c you wouldn't believe what he's dreaming of and how amazing it would be, which is why he'd just stare in amazement at her/fireflies. I'd Like To make Myself Believe That Planet earth Turns Slowly It's Hard To Say That I'd Rather Stay Awake When I'm Asleep Cause Everything Is Never As It Seems means: he wants to tell himself that the world is still turning while he's sleeping and dreaming about her b.c it's just another day that goes by w.o her that he has to get over her. yet, it's hard for him to say that he'd rather be awake b.c he doesn't want to be b.c to him sleeping is better b.c he's dreaming of her and when he's awake it's not how it seems in his dreams b.c he's not w. her. Cause I'd Get A Thousand Hugs From Ten Thousand Lightning Bugs As They Tried To Teach Me How To Dance A Foxtrot Above My head A Sockhop Beneath My Bed A Disco Ball Is Just hanging By A thread means: lighting bugs, close to fireflies but not the same term, people or other girls helping him try to get over the girl(firefly) w. hugs ect. i also think that the things about his head and under his bed are just random things to him trying to say his world is all over the place. and the disco ball would be something older (the past relationship) is hanging by a thread b.c he's slowly losing her more and more each day. To Ten Million Fireflies I'm Weird Cause I Hate Goodbyes I Got Misty Eyes As They Said Farewell But I'll Know Where Several Are If My Dreams Get Real Bizzare Cause I Saved A Few And I Keep Them In A Jar means: he doesn't like when people leave or walk out of his life. he's upset when he doesn't have the girl he loves and b.c he wants her he doesn't have any other girl b.c he wants the one he loves. these last few lines also mean if his dreams start to get weird he saved some of his favorite dreams of her as memories and he's keeping them so he never fully loses her or forgets her. |
