| Townes Van Zandt – Flyin' Shoes Lyrics

The song is about realizing ones fate and preparing for it. In this story it's a grim fate. Tying on the flyin' shoes is a clear reference to dying - taking the one last big trip. The storyteller would like to stay but he seems to have no choice. It's a very beautiful and yet at the same time completely hopeless song. |

It's infact originally a song by Brian Carman/Bob Spickard by The Chantays. Johnny Thunders covered it on his 1978 So Alone album. |

They started their set in the 1980's usually with this Johnny Thunders cover. A great intro song. |

This song is definately also about the band itself: Hanoi Rocks - their broken dream from the 1980's.
"Too many dreams of youth
That we never caught
Just a day late or a dollar short" |

It was written in late 1983 or early 1984. Sometime before Razzle's death. Since he died, it took another meaning and they dedicated this song to Razzle sometimes in the late years. |
