He's crushed. From all the things that went wrong with one girl. First Verse: He could only think of what things meant to the girl, and in seeing the house that they once built together, he couldn't take the memory of what they could of been. So he "sold" it all away, whether he actually sold it, or just flat out gave it away. He may even be homeless, just wandering and lost, hence- "dying in the moonlight" Second Verse: Before he sold the house, he looked at everything that was hers.** And he's describing her, and how she was, not just how she played the piano. He's thinking back on her memory, and her personality. Third & Fourth Verses: This is his regrets. How he listened in on the girl, and heard her voice even though he was never supposed to. He regrets that he never told her how he really felt. **Oh, and I think that she didn't leave him. She died. I don't see why else he would still have all her stuff. |

He contradicts himself in this. He says that though they have new friends, they still have old friends and each other. Yet, he knows that nothing will be the same once she moves away. And he tries to offer him and her comfort. |
