| Tegan and Sara – It Was Midnight Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think this song is about Tegan's relationship with Lindsey Byrnes. I might be wrong, but I think that The Con was also about her. Tegan chased after Lindsey for years because she couldn't decided whether or not she was a lesbian or not, and maybe this song is about problems they were having in their relationship at one point... "it was midnight your hand was in mine all eyes were on our table it was after noon before you were out of bed and I was able to concentrate to figure out a plan to keep you here, to evaluate.. to make a list, a list to convince you" I think that first verse is describing the fact that Lindsey may not have been comfortable being with Tegan, having people look at two women holding hands. "it was monday you were packing on my floor my eyes were charting every move you made it was early evening before you were home and I was sure you were safe I can't concentrate I try so hard to plan to keep you here I can't evaluate I threw away the list to convince you" This part is obviously describing Tegan being left, possibly because of what I said before, Lindsey was uncomfortable with the relationship and wanted out. "don't run away; it only fuels the flames.. don't pull away; it only makes me want to stay.. (it was midnight)" I guess here Tegan is trying to tell Lindsey not to leave, because she's not going to give up. |
