i feel really strongly about this song so i think i do really understand, so heres my opinion to make it seem a bit clearer to the people who dont understand at all aah :) just my opinion though. basic jist ; this girl has left him and this is his search to try find her but he doesnt know where she is or maybe he just doesnt know if her feelings are in the same place as his 'He woke up from dreaming and put on his shoes Started making his way past Two in the morning He hasn't been sober for days' really simple verse, basically he was dreaming about her, has been having sleepless nights with weird sleeping patterns which is why its two in the morning, hasnt been sober for days as his way with dealing with the now broken relationship is by drinking to forget it 'Leaning now into the breeze Remembering Sunday, he falls to his knees They had breakfast together But two eggs don't last Like the feeling of what he needs' again, really simple, he walks out into the street, remembers sunday (could be the last day he say her) he thought evrything was normal, they went out for breakfast, but the memory of the breakfast (two eggs) isnt anything on actaully being there and eating the breakfast with her. he needs more. he needs it just to go back to being simple like that. 'Now this place seems familiar to him She pulled on his hand with a devilish grin She led him upstairs She led him upstairs Left him dying to get in' now it gets a little more complicated, hes ended up in a familar place as he either walked himself there obliviously or everything reminds him of her, he remembers her pulling his hand etc, but when hes played this part out and he ends up upstairs at her apartment he cant get in, because shes not really there, or she is but doesnt want to let him in and he wants to get in. 'Forgive me, I'm trying to find my calling I'm calling at night I don't mean to be a bother But have you seen this girl? She's been running through my dreams And it's driving me crazy, it seems I'm gonna ask her to marry me' ok here i think hes talking to the neighbours? and asking them about her, to make sure hes not been dreaming, he loves her and to make sure he has hold of the love this time and not let it slip away hes going to ask her to marry him. also its been driving him crazy because hes ended up at her apartment through remembering and is just generrally falling apart 'Even though she doesn't believe in love He's determined to call her bluff Who could deny these butterflies? They're filling his gut' he realises that this must be love, he couldnt think of anything else to explain the feelings he has for her, including the butterflies. hes calling her bluff because he thinks it impossible that he could feel this way and it isnt love so its obviously a real thing but she doesnt believe 'Waking the neighbors, unfamiliar faces He pleads though he tries But he's only denied Now he's dying to get inside' again, trying to find her 'Forgive me, I'm trying to find my calling I'm calling at night I don't mean to be a bother But have you seen this girl? She's been running through my dreams And it's driving me crazy, it seems I'm gonna ask her to marry me' 'The neighbors said she moved away Funny how it rained all day I didn't think much of it then But it's starting to all make sense Oh, I can see now that all of these clouds Are following me in my desperate endeavor To find my whoever, wherever she may be' neighbours said she moved away, as they havent seen her. could be 2 explanations for this, she doesnt want to come out her flat because shes so depressed about losing her chance with him. or she has went away for a while/to live to escape the memories she has with him. raining all day could just mean thats he depressed and rain is a depressing thing, so i think thats a metaphor haah, now hes saying that basically, eveything going wrong, he feels like its only him thats depressed as he keeps changing his mind about her loving him back throughout the song and this is him hitting his lowest depression point, and is thinking that everything is going wrong, the rainclouds are following only him about. and they are follwing him, which is reminding him of her and is making him try find her, which in return is making him more depressed because he cant find her 'I'm not coming back (Forgive me) I've done something so terrible I'm terrified to speak (I'm not calling, I'm not calling) But you'd expect that from me I'm mixed up, I'll be blunt (You're driving me crazy) Now the rain is just washing you out of my hair And out of my mind Keeping an eye on the world From so many thousands of feet off the ground I'm over you now I'm at home in the clouds, towering over your head' means that, shes not over him and by saying she is her heads are in the clouds, shes pretending to herself that she is because she terrified to tell him that she loves him ('terrified to speak' part) and she says towering over your head because she feels too embarrased (maybe) to say that she loves him too and by not telling him she thinks shes being cooler, sounds silly but its the only word to describe it, by not telling him which is making her feel more in control of the relationship and less vulnreable which ultaminatley makes her 'tower over his head' she didnt kill herself keeping an eye on the world, could maybe mean, keeping an eye on the relationship which is her world from so many thousands of feet off the ground, shes towering over him remember? the rain also comes into it here, as shes feeling mighty depressed aswell, just like he is. shes not coming back because she doesnt want this to happen again because shes so hurt by it. but shes knows that shes lost her chance with him. 'I guess I'll go home now I guess I'll go home now I guess I'll go home now I guess I'll go home' i think that he maybe found this is in a note or something? NOT A SUICIDE NOTE and so now he just has to get over it and he feels like he doesnt have a choice end of haha, took me ages to write so appreciate this! xxx |
