Blue Rodeo – Five Days In May Lyrics 16 years ago
Catie86 is correct...Jim wrote this song as a collaboration of a few stories...one being him and his wife meeting in a shelter during a hurricane, the other being a time when Blue Rodeo was in New Zealand, and they took a day to visit teh beach. Their soundman, Kenny, grabbed a stick and wrote his name in the sand. When Jim asked him about it, he said he does this everytime he's at a beach as a ritual...its basically an honor and connection with his wife. Jim thought it was a beautiful gesture, and combined it with him and his wifes story as the inspiration behind this song.

The meaning in this song, in my opinion, is that familiarity you feel when you're getting to know THE ONE...how you feel as if you've known them before, and also how no matter how bad things get, life tends to have a way to put you back up on your feet again, wipe the tears from your eyes, and make everything ok.

Blue Rodeo – Lost Together Lyrics 16 years ago
Greg Keelor (the singer/songwriter) wrote this song about the early days of Blue Rodeo...playing hundreds of crappy gigs a year, and the hopelessness of wondering if they would be successful and if it was all worth it. He was specifically inspired to write this after a gig in Detroit, where the stage was on one side of a river, and the crowd was on the other...and everytime a boat would pass by, the crowd wouldn't be able to see them, and vice versa. He said that it was one of the lowest lows they hit as a band, but in that point of desperation, he realized that, hey...if this is all jsut a waste of time, at least he's going through it with the rest of the guys...that if they really are lost...they are lost together.

Blue Rodeo – Better Off As We Are Lyrics 16 years ago
Jim Cuddy was inspired to write this song by people telling him when he was young that he should not pursue a career in music...that he was better off where he was then trying to make it in the music industry.

Blue Rodeo – Bad Timing Lyrics 16 years ago
I read an interview with Jim Cuddy (the singer/songwriter) that said this song is literally about bad timing...how sometimes you are presented with a relationship opportunity, but due to the need to keep moving with your life (in this case, being a traveling musician who must keep at it on the road) is sometimes more important than stopping and taking the time to honor the opportunity that is right in front of you. That it is tempting sometimes to try to "reconnect" with that certain person who you've had this opportunity with, but if the timing isn't right, it can end up opening up old wounds and causing pain for both parties involved.

The Fray – Never Say Never Lyrics 16 years ago
This song to me is about the ups and downs of love. The struggles 2 people must go through during the duration of their relationship. The growing pains that everyone faces in relationships...the ones that either tear 2 people apart, or end up pulling 2 people closer together and building a stronger relationship.

In this song, I believe the songwriter is faced with another problem in his relationship, and is telling his lover not to let him go...that this is just another bump in the road that they must ride out, and that better days lie ahead for the 2 of them if they commit to holding onto each other and their love.

The Fray – Happiness Lyrics 16 years ago
This song represents life as a whole to me, the struggles we face that stand in the way of happiness, the choices we make in our quest to find happiness, the feeling of desperation we get when happiness is out of our lives, and how that pain skews our outlook on life and happiness...how it feels like it will be gone forever and you just want to give up, but the constant reminder of it leads us to keep searching for it, and ultimatley, how what is meant to be will be, and how in most cases, the thing you're so desperately for usually FINDS YOU...and usually when you least expect it.

The Fray – Absolute Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song is about missed opportunities, dreams not recognized, desires left unfulfiled...and how life's circumstances shape us into who we become and what we do. I also think grimertop90 is right...that there is a christian or faith based meaning to it as well.

The Fray – Ungodly Hour Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song is about the feeling at the end of a relationship where the songwriter has promised his significant other that he would change to keep her happy, but has not succeeded in changing (I know you're leaving now cause I held onto my way tightly). As a result, the songwriter is pleading for one more chance and, as a result of being blinded by his love for her, does not want to face the truth, that the two of them just were not meant for each other.

O.A.R. – Shattered (Turn the Car Around) Lyrics 16 years ago
I think the song is about the songwriter realizing he made a mistake in pushing someone away, and the reality of what he needs to do to reconcile the situation. He thought he'd be ok without her, and he's finally realized he was wrong...that he needs more than what his life without her has become, and has realized he was trying to become something fake or unnatural...when in reality, he belongs with the girl who he's left, and he can't waste anymore time away from her...
