To me, this song is all about hiding what you're really feeling and how kids seem to grow up and learn that the idea of expressing your true emotions is wrong. The flaws in these teachings are shown in the song "Something filled up my heart with nothing" and how as time goes on, this can really take a toll on a person "Now that I'm older my heart's colder." The band is trying to tell the importance of not bottling evreything up inside and that even though you may seem to be keeping things "happier" in the end it can ruin everything "Summer into dust, every good thing to rust" But towards the end of the song, the music turns upbeat and happy, and the band "wakes up" and decides that they don't want to die so cold and empty. "I can see where I am going to be when the reaper reaches and touches my hand." |
