Actually, this song is about a relationship. The guy wants to become the most important person in the world to the girl, so he gets a little possessive and such. Moreover, I think the couple has problems, because the guy is really clinging to the girl and doesn't give her a lot of space ("I said, "All I need is today," but that wasn't the case "). According to me, because of practical problems, they can't stay together (if it's about teens, one of them has to move, maybe) and the girl realizes this, but the guy just won't give up. In the end, it gets really sweet and tender as they both learn that, if they want to be happy, they have to learn to let go and hope for the best. This is very clear when you compare part of the middle of the song ("To wish for own happiness is not selfish, right? If that's so, I want to hold you as tight as I can ") with part of the last chorus ("As the small earth rotates, I learn to become more kind. I want to hug you once more, as soft as I can.") So, I partially agree with Hanabi but I think the song is actually about two people who are in love and can't stay together and in the end, they both learn to let go (although I still think they hope that in a way, they'll end up together again). |

According to me, this song is about two different people falling in love with each other. The protagonist is really relaxed about the relationship and knows things are fine when you just let life take it's course. The person who this song's about, however, is really tense about the relationship (possibly because of a failed relationship in the past), hence the railroad reference. Through the entire song, the protagonist is just saying "Everything's gonna be okay, just have a little faith, you'll see." The other person just can't see it (everything's a crisis...). The last verse is actually rather different from the rest of the song. My guess is that the protagonist is saying "You don't have love everything about me, you don't have to feel forced to like anything I do. I don't want to be loved for who I am, because if I am, then how can I ever evolve?" The title is probably about how the relationship is kinda fading and while you don't notice it at the moment, when you look back, you say "God, it's just so different from what it used to be." |

| Muse – Hate This and I'll Love You Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This is what happens when people expect too much of someone. At first, he's practically saying "I hate you for doing this to me, making me feel extra guilty whenever I screw up" Then, towards the end, he's thinking "Screw you, this isn't fair, I can do what I want to, it's my life." I think the title stresses this even more. "If you hate the fact that I won't take any more of your shit, then thanks, because you're actually just encouraging me." When you see it like this, it's also pretty easy to relate this song to puberty, although this could just as well be about people being oppressed by the government, their employers, etc. |

To me, this song is about someone losing their hopes, dreams and imagination. In the first verse, the protagonist blaims himself for what's happened to that person (pure hearts stumble, in my hands, they crumble) After, he talks about how the person is being guided by their mind, rather than by their emotions and how he doesn't get it. In the third verse, he says everything could be like before again, that they might be able to turn back time, if only he wouldn't be so confused and lost. Near the end, despite the previous, he says he'll still go back to that person when he's feeling down or neglected, but it won't help anymore, because that person lost their spirit. |

I think everyone's focusing too much on the religious aspect of the song. According to me, the first verse is about the protagonist doing anything to satisfy his own needs and not really considering other people's (burning a candle at both ends). But then, in the end, he realizes he'll end up alone if he keeps up like this (your self-loving soothes). The chorus would be the protagonist hoping that he won't be punished for acting so selfish. He doesn't have faith in God, otherwise he'd pray for forgiveness, but he actually prays that there is no God at all. No doubt the protagonist sees God as a punisher without mercy. I'm not really too sure about the first two lines of the second verse, but I'm pretty sure the protagonist's just talking about how his regret came too late and now he's all alone. I think the song's main character is knowing you've screwed up and having failed to fix it, so now you're hoping you'll get a next chance, a clean slate. |
