I think this song is super meta. It's about the experience of writing/performing/listening to a pop song. "You singing in the headphones" is where it is the most apparent as well as "I sing like a child to keep me from dying". And the song is one of the more "poppy" sounding songs of Stars. I think it emphasizes how a song can take you back to a certain moment or age. |

dude, I know right? I love how this song develops. It is so hard to find music that is positive while still feeling real. I always find it weird how the last refrain of "please don't let me down" sounds hopeful or sad depending on my mood. |

Sex, yes. but also about the sacrifice that comes from living your life to the fullest. The best moments will make you miss them when they are over.
Idk, I recently went to see Stephan Jenkins in concert and I think the best way to describe him is as a gay man- that is attracted to woman. I think thats why so many of the song lyrics are about sexual frustration. |

Kinda quirky I know, but to me this is the ultimate love song. It is about the intensity that comes from understanding someone so incredibly well. To be past illusions and still be completely blown away by how amazing they are. To know that no matter what happens you are always going to come back to them and they will always come back to you, and even though the relationship is never going to be perfect you are always going to keep trying. |

Hmm...I like the idea of a parent and child, but for me this song is about capturing the mood of a moment. Its the feeling you have after a crazy night out on the town with your friends (much like the mood of the other songs on the album) then suddenly you are alone and it is so quiet and you have to start thinking about life again.
I think of someone clinging to a lamp post outside of a club waiting for a taxi, and a bit afraid to face who he or she is when other people aren't around. The shadow is so "little" because the light from the lamp is directly overhead, and the "night" everything that surrounds that small circle of light. The shadow is the only thing that makes that person feel like they aren't by themselves, a "fantasy" person if you will. He/She keeps asking "To the night, will you follow me?" but the more you have to ask the more unreal the fantasy becomes.
It is a comforting moment in between the person you are around other people and the person you are by yourself. |
