| I don't think this song is deep.. I think it's very light & relaxing. Deep songs are usually very heavy emotionally and this song is just too peaceful for that. It's like a little piece of heaven. =D Kinda wish it made someone think of me when they heard it (hehehe... yeah selfish, but it's a beautiful song!). | |

I love this song... I def. am going through it. I love the part "should have smiled in that picture if it's the last that I'll see of you it's the least that you could not do" After a breakup, memories and photos are all you have left... so to look at a photo where the person is not smiling.. it's just kind of like Wow. This all I have left and they didn't even smile! Go figure, I'm left with a photo like this. |

When I read the lyrics... this is how I like to interpret it. I def. see the guy who wrote this song as an Asshole!! "The gutter may profess its love, Then follow it with hesitation, But there are just so many of You out there for rent" (he's talking about other women and referring to himself as a "gutter guy"... that is hesitant to follow up with everything he says to her, because hes still not sure if he wants to commit) "A stronger girl would shake this off in flight, And never give it more than a frowning hour, But you have let your heart decide, Loss has conquered you," (He broke her heart (possibly by cheating??) and is pretty much saying that a stronger girl would've gave him the big F U and moved on. She is holding onto him instead (eventho they both know he is a gutter guy) But, you've won one too many fights, Wearing all of your clothes at the same time, Let the good times end tonight, Oh girl, sail her, don't sink her, This time, (She always one all their fights, but now HE has won b/c he has really hurt her. The "good times" of her always being in control and winning ends tonight (he possibly has resented her for always winning fights and being in control, so he cheated out of spite). Then he adds "sail her dont sink her"...aka just get over it and learn from it b*tch) You've made it through the direst of straits alright, Can you help it if plain love now seems less interesting? You haven't changed an ounce in my eyes, And I cannot lecture you, (shes made it thru rough waters, and b/c of all the rough waters, normal love seems unnatural. It's almost like hes saying... she needs drama in her relationships to keep things interesting and the love alive. And b/c of that she sticks around with guys that dont deserve her/choses the wrong guys "gutter guys like himself". He then adds that she hasn't changed in his eyes (he may still care about her and he doesn't see her as less thru this all) but he can't lecture her (for her choices in men and her hopes that she may be the one they will stay faithful to), because he realizes that he is one of the gutter guys and that he F-ed up. He knows he is to blame, eventho she should've never gotten involved with him. He is still the one to blame. He can't blame her for chosing him and believing everything he said to her thruought their relationship) "So settle this once and for all, The light no longer shows the cracks around my door, And I have no lantern to light your way home tonight" There is no light at his door anymore, because there is no hope/nothing there anymore, and she realizes she can't change him/ make him stay faithful. He has no lantern to light a way home for her b/c he is breaking up with her. He has checked out. "You are not some saint who's above, Giving someone a stroll through the flowers, You've got so much more to dream of, Oh girl, sail her, don't sink her, This time," He's saying that there is so much more for her out there in life, and soo many more better guys than him that she deserves. hes letting her off easy, but really the truth is he just doesn't want her anymore and he wants her just to move on and let go. The song sounds like a nice way to basically say "I f-ed up, Things are over, I didn't deserve you anyway, but I can't blame you for trusting me, b/c you SHOULD trust the ones you love.. but at the same time you shouldn't date gutter guys, b/c they will always f you over. So just... sail next time.. don't sink and settle for guys like me b/c you can't trust us and we will break ur heart when you don't deserve it! Don't settle for less" |
