It's ironic how their music got lighter, yet their lyrics became really straight forward... and better. This song, for me is like a continuation for The Downfall Of Us All. People get really stupid with comments like "they are sell outs", "they are trying to be more pop"... EVERY artist wants to be listened to by as many people as possible, it would be stupid if they played the same style for their entire careers, musicians get bored and they like to experiment. They have come to realize that it doesn't matter what purists think of them. "You know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low" they can't be more straight forward than that, that's a lesson for life. |

i don't think that she was killed, but i agree with the rest. I just think that the "i'm over you now" is basically her saying that being on a plane leaving town (up in the sky) is the only way she's going to be literally/metaphorically "over him", and she wants to, she feels like home in the clouds, without commitment and/or responsibilities, she's like.. free to go and do whatever she wants. She left him without any goodbyes, she just left, scared of what she felt for him... that's the "terrible thing" she did. |

This is to me the "what it is all about" song of the Golden Age Of Grotesque. I don't think he's aiming directly at his fans, but to the entire music/media industry. Every song on this entire album is 10 times more explicit than any of his previous works and that's deliberate, his entire image and productions over the years have created a "circus" around him, a circus that mostly clouds what he really wanted to express (not to mention that he became part of the media circus as well). And to me, that circus is filled with a lot of "fans" that missed "his" point entirely and put him on a pedestal where he doesn't belong, other people that got lost into all the shock-art that he uses that they forgot so listen and interpret the lyrics and simbolisms and labeled him as something he is not. So to me, this album and specially this song is sort of a "well if "this" is what you want, let's take it up a notch and just be completly blunt, be as decadent and explicit as i can and wait for a response" attitude. I don't think i'm an "expert" and i really don't like calling people stupid for their musical tastes, everyone is entitled to an opinion and to express themselves. And to the poster that thinks he is a math genius, i'm 23 and i have 2 majors in engineering (did both at the same time) and i don't think that i'm smarter than someone who doesn't. It's not about being better, smarter or water, it's about thinking for youserlf and respect others ideas. That's what MM is to me. |

Well, my theory about this song is that is set inside a guy's head, there are two persons "talking", although, i'm not sure about the "identity" of the other person involved: a) another "version" of the guy inside his head doing as the counter-part of his arguments. b) a girl, the guy pictures the girl saying what he thinks she would say as an answer to what he's saying. either way, it feels like if (let's say the guy's is Jack) Jack doesn't have any contact with the girl involved (the first time i heard it, i thought it was a stalker) so it doesn't really matter who's the other one on his head, that other person is just the "voice" of his negative thoughts on this whole situation; the verses seem to me a little "bipolar", like, he starts hopeful that things can be good between them, and then on the second verse can't ("and it's just as it should be"), and so on on the 3rd and 4th verse. And my heart hangs from this noose Like your footsteps in crowded rooms Feel the sweet scents of autumn blooms (Jack) Is this what you imagined? (the other jack) Caught your glimpse from an empty stare Hidden eyes behind your auburn hair Catch my breath for the smoke to clear (Jack) And it's just as it should be (the other jack) -him not being able to go and talk to her, she's unreachable- My best laid plans Will build and break your heart -"your"- (the other jack "saying what the girl might say/do", even though, this really is what he's thinking, that no matter what, even if she has good intentions, she's going to hurt him) Her guilty hands Tear my whole world apart -"my"- (jack) My mind keeps racing She's softly dreaming -she doesn't even know he exits and yet she's the one to blame for him hurting- I'm scraped and sober But there's no one listening (jack) And we'll wake up in vacant rooms Pull you close to my aching skin Broken glass on the porcelain -she's the little porcelain figurine (perfect) and he's the broken glass (to me this sounds like the hedgehog's dilemma)- (jack) Is this what you imagined? (the other jack) We'll forget what we used to say And our lives won't mean anything Pull me close as I drift away (jack) And it's just as it should be (the other jack) My best laid plans Will build and break your heart -"your"- (the other jack "saying what the girl might say/do", even though, this really is what he's thinking, that no matter what, even if she has good intentions, she's going to hurt him) Her guilty hands Tear my whole world apart -"my"- (jack) My mind keeps racing She's softly dreaming -she doesn't even know he exits and yet she's the one to blame for him hurting- I'm scraped and sober But there's no one listening (jack) And we'll both take our revenge But we still won't feel any better (notice the two voices here on the song, we're back to who the other person is?, if it's "the other him", then both think that even though they end it all, take their poetic revenge towards her that won't change anything, they realize that she's not the root of the problem.) And we both take our revenge But we still don't feel any better x4 I'm scraped and sober, but there's no one listening I'm scraped and sober, but there's no one listening I'm scraped and sober, but there's no one listening (feel any better) I'm scraped and sober, but there's no one listening to me at all (both) i still can't figure out why exactly mark uses "sober", could be saying that he is "in control", that he doesn't need alcohol, drugs, etc that he's past all that, that they don't work anymore? and yeah, i've read Dante's Inferno (it's actually the Inferno, the Purgatory and Paradise), but the chapter 13 of the Inferno fits the most, dante walks through the woods of "the ones who were violent towards themselves" (purgatory's chapter 13 he visits the ones acussed of envy) |

I think this says it all: "Thomas the Apostle, also called Doubting Thomas or Didymus (meaning "Twin"), was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He is best known for disbelieving Jesus' resurrection when first told of it, then proclaiming "My Lord and my God" on seeing Jesus in John 20:28. He was perhaps the only Apostle who went outside the Roman Empire to preach the Gospel. He also crossed the largest area, which includes the Persian Empire and India.[3]" but i do like pencil's view. To me, personally this song in general is about accepting the bad things (accidents, "evil" people, etc), evil is always there (never-fading rain) and that will make you value the good things more. Although, i can also see the connection that as the evil (never-fading rain) is always there, the amaranth (also never-fading) is too. You know, like, a balance to things: you can be rational and yet have a deeper wish that things like god and angels do exist (like some christian/muslim/etc scientist). That type of inner struggle and i think thats what Tuomas is saying, he was baptized and all that but he is still doubts about religion and all. That's why he's "alone without himself". PD: sorry about my english, it's not my native tounge |

I agree with most people on the "general" meaning of this song, but, to me this song is much more personal. A couple of years ago i used to have this really weird episodes from time to time "I Can See When You Stay Low Nothing Happens Does It Feel Right?" i kept hearing stuff inside my head weird voices inside my head (people i knew saying awful things, or even "myself") and with that, came thoughts that haunted me all day long and sometimes even stayed for weeks "Late At Night Things I Thought I'd Put Behind Me Haunt My Mind" i was also very unstabble, i could go from being totally depressed to an absolute state of happiness and euphoric manifestations, it really was overwhealming sometimes "It's All Around Getting Stronger, Coming Closer Into My World" but at some point i started to get really scare, i realized that i had a problem, and i had to fix it sooner or later, it was my problem after all, so i went to the psychiatrist - this is why, for me is the most meaningful part on this song: "Though This Might Just Be The Ending Of The Life I Held So Dear But I Won't Run There's No Turning Back From Here" so, in conclusion, i think this song embraces every struggle that a person can have with the society, their family, a friend, a lover or a struggle within themselves, realizing that "this is it", "i have to do something about it" |
