After much thought I've decided that the song is the tale of a broken relationship. I believe the fallen tree is a metaphor for a insurmountable obstacle, he being the melody of it means "he's" the cause of it. The object of his affections can't see or understand the issue. Therefore the subject is the architect of his own downfall. This song is like a lament. One of my favourite songs. |
