| Justin Timberlake – Blue Ocean Floor Lyrics

So often life seems to get in the way of a good relationship. Obligations to others, distance, and just plain stress put loved ones on edge or strain a situation.
When I hear this song I think of where I am in my life. In a love so wonderful and beautiful, so ready to start a life with someone else, but with no way to get it jump-started for the time being. It's frustrating - but more than anything else we have each other. So much of our strength lies in our ability to call out to each other - to "send your heartbeat" - and to occasionally get some time on that blue ocean floor, reminding ourselves what we're setting up for ourselves and each other. |

Like a creepier version of "Sound of Silver"...almost like it's from the perspective of the most desperate dancefloor patron ever. |

This album is like every awesome party I've ever been to, packed into an hour or so. And of course this is how I feel when I'm trying to get home after some sort of shenanigans. Brilliant. |

I believe he's saying, "You're no Bruce Vilanch!"
Hi-larious song. Murphy knocked it out of the park with this record. |

"It's already half past, and it won't last..."
What a gut-wrenching song. Probably one of Elliot's best ever. I hear this as a guy still in love with a girl who moved on. Ever since she got another boyfriend life hasn't been half right. |

For me, this song is sung a guy in love with his good friend. "You can't get what you want, but you can get me." They'll still have a good time even if she's settling.
And I like the idea of the manatee representing trust; either that, or it was the only thing that rhymed with "plastic tree" :P
What an amazingly atmospheric song though...so many layers to be discovered with really good headphones :) perfect roller-rink or cheesy prom song.
One minor correction though: instead of "so let's set up and see her" it's "so let's set out to sea". Fits with the beach/ocean themes of the album. |

This song just keeps building, and building...amazing. I can definitely see some of the party lifestyle in it as well--as if each person coming to a party played a small part in the song. Over the course of the song the party grows and all the dialog and events blend together. |

I sympathize with this meaning more, so I'm going to agree with you. The two of them had history, "a name to call you", and now that it's no longer possible, he longs "for the same old things that turn me inside out."
great, great song. |

blackabsinthe, good spot with the possible suicide references.
Does anyone else imagine the end of the song not as the girl calling out to him, but him imagining it in some way? I dunno, I just always got that feeling since it's off in the distance to some extent. |

| Mute Math – Lost Year Lyrics

I don't personally see it as a call to start over--things are just too far gone for that. I hear the line "Hold on to the way we started" as his request for them to look back on their relationship fondly, from the lens of what should have happened.
Also, I think the line "Words hurt more when they are honest, Don't say any more, any more." is wonderful. Perfectly describes that point where it's past arguing and fighting, and just time for the two of them to part ways.
Overall, one of the better songs on the new record I think, though like Christa I was pleasantly surprised to hear something so personal from Mute Math. |
