| I can't really figure out what this song is actually about, but they way he sings it is so lovely and broken. I suppose the whole song has to do with "going away" in one way or another, but I don't know if all the stanzas are connected beyond that general theme. | |

It's really fun, but I think it's actually kind of a sad song about living a wild life even though it's not deeply fulfilling. The line "Take your greedy hands and lay them on me" is the one that makes me see it this way. All the other lines are about enjoying life in some way while also acknowledging that "it's not in the heart." |

I don't know what she intends by 'put to death with ones we need the most', but it makes me think of two things. First, it seems like a reference to Jesus, in that he was an innocent man who was put to death, and those who believe he is the Word made flesh, he is, in some strange way, the one we need the most. Second, I guess it means how we hurt the people who are closest to us. And I love the last line: he's still my favorite loser, falling/fallen for the entire human race. I just resonate with humble images of Jesus, who really just loves people and being with people, and is not looking to scare us or make us feel bad for not being holy, who really loves us and wants to be with us and help us. |

So many of their songs have this murder theme running through them. Even though the lyrics are somewhat dark, this song has moved me deeply. The music is beautiful, and Will Sheff has a gift for conveying deep emotion in his vocals, no matter what he is singing about. I don't really know what this song is about, maybe there is some unifying them that I haven't yet discovered. And in the night, we might get lost... |
