My understanding (aided by npr.org, in which I put a lot of faith) is that the entire album was written from the perspective of Georgie Fruit. I believe your interpretation, given that NPR's take is accurate, would be quite possible.

I'll never get over how great the following lines are:

Maybe I love the lines so much because I've known that kind of guy. Or maybe the lines are universally appealing. I suspect the latter.
