Jack White – Love Interruption Lyrics 11 years ago
To me, it seems that this is a song about the strongly conflicting feelings and hypocrisy many people feel when it comes to love.

When we think about the ideal of love, we tend to think of it as something that should take us by storm and knock us off our feet and be all-consuming, all of the things that are exaggerated in the verses of the song. But when it comes down to it, the second things start to take a turn in a relationship or we feel our independence being threatened, we tend to resent and reject all of the disruptions, corruptions, and interruptions that kind of love inevitably brings.

I think it's about the inherent incompatibility of these two lines of thinking - the very title of the song seems akin to sacrilege, thinking of love as an interruption is so crude and misses the entire meaning of love, but then again, love is always going to be an interruption to one's life and one's self. The structure of the song, that it simultaneously is forwarding both horns of this dilemma, seems to indicate that it is perfectly plausible to want both of these incompatible things, but also underlines how ludicrous that sounds when we say it out loud.

I love this interpretation, it brings an entirely new feeling to the song for me. It also works beautifully with the lines "And I'll be holding all the tickets / And you'll be owning all the fines." The damage done to him by this past relationship should be his alone to deal with and move on from, but instead he's transfered it to this new woman, and suddenly she's responsible for all the "fines" that he's racked up from his previous relationship. Whatever Justin Vernon's intention, the depth of interpretation this song allows just shows how remarkable his songwriting it. Beautiful, beautiful song.

Angus and Julia Stone – And the Boys Lyrics 15 years ago
I think that it's about reality versus ideals. By ending the relationship, they're leaving the possibility open that it would have worked out, that they would have been better to each other, that things wouldn't have fallen apart. But they know that if they stay together, they'll just end up hurting each other again. So I think that she's saying it's safer to keep the idea of them in her heart, so that it can be something perfect - it's more dangerous to take the chance that your ideals will be crushed and you'll disillusioned, or fall out of love, or find that the other person isn't who you thought they were, or you aren't who you thought you were. So rather than say that she won't hurt him this time, which she obviously feels she inevitably will, it's safer to just end the relationship but keep the memories in tact.

Regina Spektor – Hotel Song Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with the view that it's about a girl who's sleeping with men in hopes that they'll turn around and love her and want to be with her, but finding that she's just being used.

'So who's the girl wearing my dress
I figured out her number
It's on a paper napkin
But I don't know her address'

I think this is about realizing that she's turned into someone who would be unrecognizable to her former self. The line about the number on the paper napkin could be referring to her finding her own phone number left behind by one of the men she's slept with, and realizing that she's nothing but a one night stand, that he never had any intention of calling. And as for the address, I agree with those who said that it's about her not being anchored or having the kind of stability she'd really like to, that she's lost and doesn't really have a home anymore.
